O.K, pay extra attantion FF fans.
Having played all FF from 5 onwards, i am a huge fan of squaresoft's work. I feel that the 3D final fantasies were pure masterpeices with an unbeatable formula. This is probally the reason why the gameplay hasnt changed scince squaresoft, a dying company many years past, set out on its 'final' project all that time ago.
Now as a fan of the FF series i also belive that Square would be on solid foundations if they kept the same formula just with more immersive worlds, therefore taking away another 100+ hours of my life.
Now when i heard Square had merged with another company to make square enix (quite a while ago now) i was quite dissapointed. I mean, square was doing it right so far (apart from removing the world map in FF10  ), so y change what they have?
and so far i am right. take these examples:

FF 11: great game, but takes the whole point away from FF: a SP game with an immersive (and LINEAR) plot. Should be called FF: online, instead of butting into the FF chain. grrr.
FFCC: im still not sure whether im gonna get this or not. seems pretty good, but its NOTHING like the game i was hooked on when i first bought my PS all those years ago. Spells dissapear when leaving a deongeon? :( too much is differnt. its been nintendoised!!! AAA!!! stay on your side of the line nintendo!!!
FF X-2: a sequel? WTF R THEY THINKING!!! this is wrong!!! theyve flipped yunas character completely upside down!!! SHE HAS GUNS!!! no spells- only costume changes!!! and the one thing i loved about 10 (>>>spoiler>>>- the main charater dying... made the ending so much more ambitios) has been turned around!!! "he was just sleeping".

It seems i will never play a game simillar to FF7- one of the best gaems ever. the rumours of FF12 havent been too great, either.
/me sighs
i hope FF:advent children will be a good move/ DvD... it better be...

Right now Square Enix isn't bad at all. I'm seriously looking forward to FF: XII. I don't mind if they've merged with another company as long as they keep true to the FF style. I like FF: XI and I still play it today. I feel that in FF:CC they just wanted to experiment with something new. On the other hand, FF: X-2 has to be the worst thing thats happened to the FF games since FF: VIII. All in all I feel Square Enix will stay true to the old style. To me FF: XII looks extremely interesting and I can't wait until it comes out, but until then I'll play FF: XI to keep me busy.

FF12 will hopefully be amazing, back to basics. and btw pressure, how much did u get into FF? i mean, purely out of intrest, how long have u spent playing FF? out of ALL of them, id say about 500 hours. maybe more. ive completed 7,8,9,10 twice or more each. i preffered 9, but 7 was the best. i just want an exact copy to 7 8 and 9. ;(.
and about the games i meantioned, i have played none of them, but will probally buy them all at one point. i am a FF fan, what can i say ;)
unfortuanately, i wont get 11, as i dont like paying monthly for games. I dont get much money and Planetside ripped me off by not cancelling my subscription when i asked, stealing £30. bad experience with games u pay for :(

X, X-2 were both sad pathetic titles that dont live up to the legacy at all linear and shorter and with terrible stories and lipsyncing they made me want to cry... what happened to the robust combat and item systems and the novel esque stories... jesues christ...

FF9 was the last good title from them that I played... if front mission 4 is ruined as well I will scream and kill someone

I liked 9 a lot. I dunno whats up with everyone but where I live every FF is labeled "sucky" and FF7 is god. Ask someone, "Hey did you like FF9? I thought it was awesome." They'd reply, "No it sucks ass. I played the first disc and FF7 is much better. Nothing beats FF7 its too good. In fact I'm never going to like any other FF ever again because FF7 was so good that everything else sucks forever and I'll never give it a try. Oh yea FF8 was good though." At that point I'm punching them in the face for being retards and also for liking FF8.

imo the FF series has gone down hill since FF6 (FF7 was still great - but noot quite there), long before enix stepped in.

A decent sequal to Secret of Mana - now that would really own \o/

Chrono Trigger.
Whoa.
Discuss.

CT is up there with FF6 :)

FFT is my favorite non-traditional RPG, with FFTA being a close second

But still below SoM :D Playing one of squaresofts best is good, playing the same game with 2 mates increases the fun exponentially \o/

SoM>FF6>CT>FF7>FFT

I have spoken!

I'd argue, but you DO have a moogle avatar

Chrono Trigger is the best game ever, bar none.
I don't care about your Final Fantasy, Secret of Mana, etc.

CT had it all - the story was top notch, gameplay incredibly open ended, especially towards the end, and the battle system was incredibly innovative, and actually fun.

Thank you.

:bounce:

heh - lovely aint he. I was tempted to get FF:Crystal Chronicals just to groom and paint my own moogle. Same it's a crock :/

How about SoM and FF6 share the first place. Can't say fairer than that.

FF:CC is more similar to SoM than any FF game, though, except for the whole lame GBA connectivity crap.. I hate that Nintendo is pushing for that

Only in that it can be played multiplayer - the similarities really end there.

I couldn't agree more about GBA connect ... it's a massive bag of shite, failing to implement half of what was promised.

Slightly off topic - has anyone been following True Fantasy Live Online? I think it's looking real tasty :)

(probably deserves a thread of its own :) )

No, I'm not obsessed.

It can be played single player, but any multiplayer requires GBA connectivity

Secret of Mana was awesome. :)

Still is.

I was playing it about 3 months ago with my friend online using ZSNES.. we got about half way through, and we haven't played since :(

ARRRRR i hate it sooo much. me and my mate were thinking of going out today and buying FF:CC, so we could start together. my m8 owns no nintendo consoles- but he like FF.
THEN WE FOUND OUT WE BOTH NEED GAME BOY ADVANCES!!!
i mean, why cant we just use controllers??? i have 1 GBA, and i was thinking of going out and buying another second hand for £25, but is it really worth it? the game looks more action orientated- is there any FF roots left?

Merging with Enix isn't where Final Fantasy started going downhill, it started going downhill immediately after Final Fantasy VIIs success. Squaresoft got greedy and decided to make a movie, tons of merchandise, and worst of all, split the FF team so they could make twice as many FFs instead of focusing on making really good ones.

And keep in mind FFX was being made before the merger was even known about.

I wouldn't be too distraught m8 - FF:CC is nothing like the previous FF games. It really is quite poor :/
