Star Trek the movie.

Looks like it'll be a ton of fun.

As a huge fan I expect an exciting movie, faithful to the original Trek principles, but stripped of its geekiness. More rock. Less cheese. If done well, it might restart the franchise in a mind-blowing way.

It looks pretty good. I AM NOT going to see it anytime near when it first comes out in theaters. That's all I want are the geeky fanboys dressing up like Spock cheering and clapping every time something cool happens.

*Sorry, I have residual feelings from going to see one of the new Star Wars movies when they first came out...*

Anyway read the comic tie in into movie, its ok, ties the TNG crew to the old/new one

What he said.

I have never, ever even had the slightest inkling of care for Star Trek, but this looks pretty badass. I'll probably see it with a bunch of people from work who feel similarly.

Also, I don't understand why everyone keeps saying that this'll reboot Star Trek.
It's not like after this is done that they're going to make a new show with this cast.

I second this. I never cared for star trek at all but this does intrigue me abit, although I am sceptical of JJ abrams (I don't like lost or cloverfield)

I've never really been into Star Trek, but I actually like the look of this movie and I will definitely be checking this out.

I have the same feelings as Kruun, Lambda, and Samon.

I read an article talking about how they want to make a new TV show (depending on the movie's success) set in the same timeframe, but on a different ship with different characters and adventures.

Eh, didn't Enterprise sort of cover this?... albeit it was set a ways before Kirk's time.

But, whatever... that'd be cool.
A JJ Abrams Star Trek series would be... just... I can't even comprehend it.

I don't think he was necessarily implying it would be good.

Basically.
I'm not a huge fan of him either.
Lost and MI:3 are about the only good things of his that I liked.

Alias was shit.
Cloverfield was shit.
Fringe was shit.

The only thing I've liked by him was MI:III but in all fairness that basically writes itself AND it includes Abram's staple of not ****ing explaining anything (was it really that hard not to tell us what the rabbit's foot was? He's just deliberately ****ing us over)

In all fairness none of the MI films are any better than decent films anyway.

MI:3 was the only one that I enjoyed, atleast.
But, lets not derail the thread.

Oh my god, Sylar!

DON'T TRUST HIM!

Abrams really has nothing to do with Lost. It is purely a creation of Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse.

I think the problem any reboot would face is the sheer amount of canon that is already in place regarding the previous series. The sheer number of restrictions on what you could/couldn't do without upsetting the fanboy contingent because it 'can't happen like that' would be a major pain in the ass for any writing team.

A full reboot from scratch effectively trashing any of the existing canon (ala BSG) would make more sense, but it would be a deeply unpopular move with the very people the show would be hoping to win over. Far better to make a completely new Sci-fi series with no legacy issues and save yourself the trouble.

This.

AVC: How much day-to-day input do you still have on Lost?

JA: Almost none. Damon Lindelof's been running the show since the first season. I went off to make a movie, and Damon's been running Lost brilliantly since then, so my day-to-day involvement is about as much as yours. [Laughs.]

AVC: Do you watch the show as a fan? Are you surprised by what happens?

JA: Oh yeah, I watch episodes, and I get the scripts. What's cool is that I was there when it was created, and now I'm watching it grow into something else.

He's basically picking up a cheque because his presence got the show greenlit, but he's certainly not leading things. Though I guess as an EP he could step in and be more involved if he wanted to.

Watch your text boy, there are some of us who enjoy Fringe, it might not be fantastic, but its better than most shite on tv these days.

The pilot was iffy, but its definitely picked up the pace since the visitor first appeared and personally I'm looking forward to it's imminent return.

You are all traitors. This is not Star Trek.

It's not Star Trek that we've seen before at least. The time gap was larger, but there were no small number of people yelling blasphemy when The Next Generation was launched. We just didn't have the internet ability to whine as much. :smoking:

Alias started off alright but then the whole girly angst bullshit was becoming too ****ing prevalent.
Got ridiculous, all she ever did was **** and whine about every god damn thing she was doing.

Also, what the ****... a sequel already? A bit full of themselves eh?

ITT no one cares about Star Trek and just want to watch a movie that looks good

I'm pretty sceptical about how good this will be. What's weird is how widespread the appeal of this seems to be. I have a friend who despises Star Trek and yet he is the one dragging me to the cinema's to see it (I was going to wait and hire the DVD).

I just bought 2, 3, and 4 for about $15 used all together. i recently saw Star Trek 1, and i liked it a lot. I used to watch the reruns here and there. looking forward to the movies i haven't seen yet

I've just started watching the original series (never seen it before). It's a lot different than The Next Generation, but even though it's cheesy and campy as hell it's till a lot of fun to watch.

I'm no Star trek fan, but from what I've seen so far this movie has as much to do with either TV series as the the new Battlestar Galactica has to do with the old series.
