Progression on the Source modification, Star Wars: The New Era, is certainly apparent by the looks of things. In their short, but always appreciated media update, we're given a more in-depth look into the Deathstar Rescue map that will be appearing in the future release of the game.[br]

lucasarts will wait to can it till they're ready to announce their own game which is exactly the same

I feel a great disturbance in the Force, as if a million Lucasfilm lawyers have been mobilised and a mod will be suddenly silenced.

Actually, Lucasfilm have been rather lenient with Star Wars mods in the past.

Fox, eh? I can see many many mods about Fox.

I dunno how I never heard of this before. Looks pretty awesome.

I don't know, it doesn't look very star wars-ish to me and the lighting leaves a lot to be desired.

the only reason the ut2004 star wars mod was allowed is because it's so well made.

Screenies don't really show alot off...and even in what they show is so much room for improvement. I would have waited with media. Sounbds sexy, if handled well! Wishing the best of luck :)

yeah, I guess they have been pretty lenient with star wars mods... the Total Annihilation spring star wars mod is still going

I was under the impression that it was always public (and widely publicised among the UT2 community), therefore Lucasarts would surely have pulled the plug early in development, because how is it possible to judge a mod as good or bad until the later stages?

Are there actually examples of Lucasarts pulling the plug on Star Wars mods? It's not something I see likely tbh. They have a long history of tollerating non-canonical Han X Luke slash fannovels, so why not computer games? :p

Hmm it might get foxed or it might not.

What makes it more likely to happen is that they've not only taken the STAR WARS name but also a lot of content seems to be inspired if not directly taken from Lucas Arts games like Jedi Knight 2 etc.

Note the consoles in the 2:nd screenshot and compare it too this one:

But perhaps Lucas Arts will be lenient and let them continue their existence, we can only hope.

I used to be part of the testing team for the Battlefield 1942 mod, Galactic Conquest (Which was called Starwars Battlefield or SW:BF for short, see the interesting conflict here? :p). Back when it was started under the Starwars Battlefield name it was ordered to cease and desist more or less, but after some negotiation they simply changed the name to Galactic Conquest and was allowed to continue, hell they where even hosted on Lucasfiles.com, just like that troopers mod. Which i believe also had "starwars" in their name at the start. So it seems you will be ok as long as you dont put Star Wars in the name.

Back on topic: doesnt look very interesting and they seem to go the same way as 90% of all starwars games/mods do... Jedis. Why does pretty much everyone who ever makes a Star Wars game or mod have to put jedis all over the place, they are frankly quite booring and overrated (and more or less extinct during the original trilogy). Which is why Galactic Conquest did kick a fair ammount of ass, no jedis, just regular troopers in big battles!(the vehicles did help abit as well :p). Hopefully they wont go the Jediknight way and have the blasterbolts flying slower than a snail with reumatism

Edit: Cruor *gasp* you mean they took inspiration from Starwars movies and games when they designed their levels? Preposterous!

But using Starwars in the name is as mentioned above a bad idea.

Taking the Star Wars name is inadvisable I agree, but Lucasfilm could simply tell them to change the name just as Valve did with Black Mesa...

Not really, we asked if they wanted anything changed and they asked if we could change the name. But it makes no difference either way.
