Ok, so not many of us care much anymore. But some of us do (cue, me). But Lucas is releasing the original, unaltered Star Wars film on DVD later this year. That's right, THEATRICAL EDITION. Where Han shoots first and Jabba is not a bitmap.

Lucasfilms is attributing this to "overwhelming demand" (internet understatement of the decade if not the century). So what do you think? Excited? Cash cow? Final proper homage to classic holy writ before it was soiled and corrupted?

Sound off!

*starts waving his plastic lightsaber.*

You know what, screw Lucas. I bought my Star Wars DVD's ages ago, and thought he'd never release the original (i.e. - best) versions.

What a scam. And don't even get me started on the prequels.....

*grumble grumble*

Hooray, another reason for Lucas to bleed money from us

I'm quite happy with Greedo shooting first, I'll stick with my version

Yeah, I've already bought the trilogy...
Could care less that it's been fixed up with modern-day computers.

Well this is great news for me. Never got around to buying the DVDs because I couldn't stand a lot of the new stuff (don't get me wrong theres plenty of fixes, but even more gaffes).

To be honest, and I`ll get chastised for saying this, but I prefer the new touched up ones, not least because in Jedi they tie the end up with replacing Anakin (makes more sense in terms of the prequels) and also the the real emperor in place of the crappy one in Empire.

I won`t be getting them.

F**k lucas WTH? do you need to make anymore money? Altering these classic films for no reason other then $$$ is one thing. But then you say there is no way in hell you're releasing the originals(on dvd) just so can bank a year later?? Was it ever about the fans?

I see him doing this with THX1138 real soon, as well.

Sad thing is, Ill probably buy it. Never purchased the altered versions...couldn't stomach it;)

I didn't bother with the latest Star wars DVD trilogy release. Why? Because I knew this would happen. Well done Lucas, you've proved you can still squeeze money out of us all. He won't stop milking it.

theres been a huge site and petition about this.. this is probably more for the old star wars vets that were around when the old ones where out in theatres

I personally hated how they put Hayden Chris-whateverthe**** his name is in place of the original guy... it looked so damn cheesey and out of place.

I didn't purchase the trilogy DVD set either. It was obvious they'd do this eventually.

I'm not buying these either. Gonna wait some more and see if they release all 6 movies in a box set. Which they'll probably do eventually too.

I dont know why they havent done all 6 in a box set yet, thats what i was hoping for.

I'd be excited, but I already bought the altered ones. It doesn't make enough of a difference to me for me to spend another 60 bucks.

By that logic every time we saw Sir Alec Guiness's face they should have pasted Ewan McGregor's over it.

Thankfully I have the old VHS they had for the re-release in theatres, so I won't be getting this.

same.
i don't have any of them (yeah my bad...and stuff :p ) and so waiting for all 6 in one box set makes sense.

No, because Obi-wan died old as a jedi, so that is what form his ghost represented, Anakins last days of being a jedi were as a young man, his older years were that of a sith, so his light side ghost represented the days of him beng a jedi.

O h, and the emporer in Jedi was different to the one in Empire and was also the one that played the emporer in the prequels, so it made sense to put him in as the emporer in Empire.

I got them all on DVDs, so all pass on this one, the real thing is to wait for the new LIVE STAR WARS TV SHOW............ I bet its going to be #1 of all time tv shows, one episode is going to cost 1 million dollar to make

Actually, if you wanna be full on nerd about it, Luke brought Vader back to the light side BEFORE he died, so he SHOULD have been older.

Don't go thinking 1 million is a lot for a TV Show per episode. Kelsey Grammar was paid 1.6 million PER EPISODE of Frasier. As quoted from IMDB.com

"Salary
"Frasier" (1993) $38,000,000/year ($1.6m per episode thru 2003-2004: 24 episodes/season)"

If you wanna be nerdy nerdy, he may have come back to the light a little, but he still wasn`t a Jedi Knight at the time of his death. :p

Now coming back to the light isn't good enough? What other criteria are you using?
