Star Wars

Yeah, I'm totally going to go see Star Wars Episode III Wednesday at midnight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If that was correct and Bush was Palpatine, wouldn't Yoda be Saddam and Mace Windu, Osama Bin Laden?

I don't think I would quite go that far,though..bush=palpatine,yeah I can see that..but the others?

Jedis /= terrorists. Wow, that's just ig'nant.

Lucas began researching how democracies can turn into dictatorships with full consent of the electorate.

In ancient Rome, "why did the senate after killing Caesar turn around and give the government to his nephew?" Lucas said. "Why did France after they got rid of the king and that whole system turn around and give it to Napoleon? It's the same thing with Germany and Hitler.

"You sort of see these recurring themes where a democracy turns itself into a dictatorship, and it always seems to happen kind of in the same way, with the same kinds of issues, and threats from the outside, needing more control. A democratic body, a senate, not being able to function properly because everybody's squabbling, there's corruption."

Now don't go reading to far into this guys...

I'm going to be a stormtrooper and destroy all threats to the Empire.

or not, who cares.

I can't be arsed as to read something about how Anikan skywalker is america or some stupid shit like that. Actually that sounds funny....../reads it.....Nope, just boring.

Star Wars is closer to showing off how the Roman Republic fell and became the Roman Empire rather than showing any kind of relationship with the modern US.

It's a stab at the US and Bush.. just like the typical hollywood movie nowadays.. if it isnt a retarded cliche horror movie like the ring, it's a tainted movie with liberal political bullshit.. makes the movie unenjoyable..

I was going to see star wars... but since it got political, it wont get one cent from me.

Sorry to burst your bubble but the movies have always been political in nature. You know, the whole Empire vs Republic theme that's been around since the original.

Hah, some might argue it's impossible to have any war film- no matter how outlandish its content- without political undertones.

Besides, didn't Lucas write the screenplay (or at least plan it) well before we decided to invade Iraq again?

If I decided not to see it it'd be because of the lame dialogue and not because of some half-imagined pseudo-political references. But I'm talking rubbish, I'm likely to see it whatever happens.

I hate those bitches makes me mad.....SW is unpolitical
BASTA

if anything it is more 70's era politics..or was the story written earlier?

I know the original star wars was released in 77 (1 year old and went to see it with my mom!!) but I can't remember when Lucas wrote the story..

I think he was in college or high school maybe when it was written..

I don't know if GWBush was a blip on anyones radar back then...

there are general political statements in the star wars movies of course..same as most entertainment throughout history..

I'd like to think star wars would just be star wars without any implication of being Anti-US.. until a movie can be a movie without a hidden political message.. forget it.

Chill man, it says in the article that it was written well before bush took office. They are comparing and contrasting similarities between what happens in the film and the irony as to how close to whats happening in modern day politics.

Its not anti anything, its just a movie.

I dunno man.. its just most movies tend to be political like that anymore and it just a movie-going turn off... and im so sick of all these copycat horror movies.. lame acting and lame story. I guess I might watch episode III.. but im really looking forward to War of the Worlds.. looked pretty good.. hopefully they wont put politics into it.

"your either with me, or your my enemy" thing really makes sense in the context of star wars where its rather black and white. Your a bad jedi or your a good jedi, and all jedi who aren't bad jedi must be eliminated.

When bush said "your either with us, or your with the terrorist" it didn't make as much sense, as there could clearly be multiple sides to that issue regardless of how simple he wanted to make it.

So I find it hard that anyone who put any thought into there script would have meant it to have any connection to bush, even if he did get the saying itself from him.

But star wars is just to black and white about everything to be a serious political commentary in this day and age.

If bush is vader, does that mean one of his daughters is going to save the world?

dont be spouting retoric, its not anti US, its insight into corruption and how it can breed dictatorships from democracies, its anti extreme right yes, its anti greed and anti dictatorship, but its not anti American, thats just your opinion, and its a silly one at that.. its not Lucas's fault the US government is following a path in relationship to what he is trying to point out.

I don't think Lucas had planned to put a whole bunch of Anti-US feelings into SW. All the movies, 1-6, are supposed to focus on vader, not on being anti-US.
