Start-up problem.

I looked around the forums, but didnt see an answer to this issue, well not one that worked for me. Whenever I start anything from the Box it will pull up the Valve intro then go to the loading screen for the game. At that point it will crash to desktop and not stay minimized. The only game I have gotten to work is TF2. I am forced to run it in a window, but no other game has responded the same way.

My system specs are...
Intel Core 2 Quad 6600
8800GTS 640mb running dirx10
Windows Vista 32bit
2 gig memory
Running to a 22" widescreen
