I have decided to turn the story I wrote in high school, with aspirations to start a book with it, into a single player mod (possibly multiplayer). I already have the map of the world done, though not scanned at the moment, as well as over 20 weapons, several character sketches, maps of certain areas, and over 50 pages of text written.

The story is written as high fantasy, inspired mostly by Robert Jordan's "The Wheel of Time" as well as J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings." I will be administrating the focus of the mod as Project Leader as well as the Concept Artist.

I am looking to hire all positions:

  1. Modelers - Responsibilities would include modeling everything from weapons to characters to trees to furniture, whatever we need modeled
  2. Mappers - Responsibilities include creating a lush world that I have designed in Concept Pieces
  3. Animators - Responsibilities will include animating monsters, magic, characters, weapons, and whatever else needs to be animated :)
  4. Coders - Responsibilities will include making sure all the custom content works within the Source world.
  5. Web Designer - Responsibilities will be to create a great website, that is both accessible and easy to use.

Please understand that while this mod will be my ideas, that I will always listen to your ideas and if I like them, use them to your credit. I am only a beginner mapper myself, know nothing about animation or coding, but I am willing to learn as well to understand how things work.

Please send your applications to [email protected] with the subject line stating: Application for Mod - *Post position desired here*

Inside the email, please give the following information:

  1. Name
  2. Alias
  3. Age
  4. Gaming Background
  5. Examples of work relating to the job you would like is required.
  6. Where can I reach you?

You can reach me in #dunbar on both Quakenet.net and Gamesurge.net.

Unfortunately it's hard to find help when the task sounds too big, and doesn't yet have a name or a face.

Perhaps mention how it works, or show some concepts (of gameplay) to get people interested.

It's hard to commit to something when most of it unknown.

Usually when I'm recruiting for a mod, I make some pictures in Photoshop that simulate the in-game HUD, to make-believe that it's already a playable game.

That way people can imagine what it would be like to play it, like the way it sounds, and get interested in working on it.

no one seems to need musicians.
I'd hire you if you can do creepy eery music, which then turns into like comical, kinda like a mixed song.

what language do you work in, aswell? Just english?

I've sent off an email, prehaps some more info would be of help.

Here's an update of what's been going on. I've started on the first city for the mod, taken directly from the illustration I did for Saylor City back in 2000. I haven't gotten it scanned yet, as it's way too big for my cheapo scanner. Once I get some cheese together, I'm going to take the world map (split up on 9 different pages) and scan them all at Kinkos. Then, using Photoshop, I'll put them all together for one great big world map.

However, to give you an idea of what I'm doing for the map I'm working on, I took a pic with my camera phone of the map.

Here's the shot from the illustration:

Here's shots from the map, with a total of around 6 hours of work so far:

Once I get more work done on the mod, I will hire musicians to create the soundtrack that fits best.

tell us more about what the mod is gonna be about :)

First of all, the concept I'm going for in this mod is to create the dynamic combat system of Half-Life 2, mix it with the open-ended gameplay of Grand Theft Auto, and put the player in rich, captivating enviroments like those in Morrowind 3. This means there will be gigantic maps for cities, where the player will roam around and interact with NPC's, or if we go Multiplayer, with other players.

Without devulging too much, I'll give a brief synaposis of the backstory I wrote some 8 years ago:

The player will be in the shoes of Azlan Nighleu, the Chancellour to the King of Dunbar, as he suddenly finds himself the target of assassination. Although he believes he is uncovering a political plot, he will come to discover that the attempts on his life stem from a much darker and sinister place.
