Steam and CS 1.6 on Internal LAN

I have HL already and we have small grp that plays CS and we wanted to upgrade to CS 1.6 but, i read somewhere that u cant play CS 1.6 without Steam being connected...

But that is a problem coz we play well only on our internal LAN that is cutoff frm internet so we cant connect to outside net so, is there neway we get arnd this problem and still play CS????

I heard, you had to be online for the beta ver of steam, but now you dont have to.

Currently you have to be connected to the internet to run a game through Steam. Valve is going to allow offline play in a later patch.

I have an institute lan which do not allow udp ports to connect to inernet. I want to update my half life (counterstrike) to 1.6. How to go about it.
