steam and half life 2 will not start.

Hi, I have the collectors edition of half life 2 which i bought years ago. I finally reinstalled it after not playing it for awhile and when I try to start it up, nothing happens. I dont get any error messages or anything like that. Nothing at all happens. Any ideas? Ive installed and reinstalled numerous times and i cant figure out what is wrong.

Try downloading Steam. Maybe you got Windows Vista(some information about your system would be nice, when asking a question), and the Steam version which came with your disc doesn't support it.

I have a dual core amd 64 processor with windows xp 64 and a geforce 9800gt video card. I tried that steam download you linked and it does not work either.

A similar thing was happening to me a few weeks ago. Launch Steam and then open up control panel to see if Steam.exe is sitting in the processes list. If it is, right click, set affinity and have it running on CPU 0 or CPU 1 only. End process and try to launch again. Hopefully this fixes it...took me weeks to figure out why this was happening. Steam support is absolute rubbish.
