Steam and HL2

My Steam folder is on the C:\ Drive but I'm planning to install HL2 (retail) on the D:\. Will this affect anything?

Also if I downloaded a mod where do I have to install it? in the steam folder or in a folder in the HL2 folder?

1. You will have to move Steam. It would be like having one part of a program on one drive, and the other on another drive. In fact, that's exactly what it is.

2. Mods should normally be able to install themselves ok, if not check the READ FIRST article in this forum for more info.
