CNet.com.au posted a good article about Steam and the users outside of North America who have been on the receiving end of some pretty questionable treatment from the big publishers for a while now, like limited releases to NA region or over priced games.

Ubisoft: "Ubisoft is still studying the different options concerning the digital market and official announcements on this subject could be made in the coming months."[br]

THQ AU: "Unfortunately we are unable to comment on the situation with Steam at this stage."[br]

Sega AU: "We honestly have nothing to do with Steam here in Australia."[br]

Atari AU: "This is a US deal with Steam done by Atari Inc and has nothing to do with Atari Australia." Kotaku AU got a bit more of an answer, managing to get it's "US-only due to licensing agreements".[br]

2k Games AU: 2k Australia forwarded a request to 2k US, but we're still awaiting a response. According to Kotaku AU, the games catalogue used to be there and is coming back eventually.[br]

Rockstar:
No response.

You can read the article here. And if you looking for a solution you can join "Rest of the World" group, they have now over 4136 members. Join this group to show publishers that you want their games in your country! I just did!

Interesting to see some companies are reacting and taking notice.

Whether it leads to action is another thing entirely.

Joined after the whole Ubisoft fiasco. Seriously, looking at that loooong list of games available in US but not Australia makes me sad. Angry sad.

Already joined after the ubisoft thing. It's in my sig if none of you noticed :D

What's "the rest of the world"? Some new book club? I'm pretty sure the Earth starts and stops on the two coasts of these United States.

Just get a US friend to buy it for you as a gift and transfer it to your ROW account, and pay them back on paypal.

Bah that requires two people. Use a service like this http://www.your-freedom.net/ and have steam directly connect through US servers. Buy game from US, disconnect and download from servers closer to you. After all even though you cannot buy these games in say Australia it doesn't matter as you bought them in America and they then work anywhere.

As always I'm voting with my wallet. If companies like steam and ubisoft do not want my monies they won't get them.
