Steam cannot connect

has anyone had problems connecting to the steam servers on innitial install?

I have a linksys router and cable modem. I tried direct connecting, still nothing. Everything else is working fine.

I've tried everything, it's been 6 hours. I can't get on. Someone who has experience with this please help.

HAve you checked www.portforward.com ?

yes, I put everything in properly from that site and still nothing. I haven't set up a static IP, that's the next step
