I've reinstalled it, and I'm pretty sure my internet works, as I am typing this from the same computer, but Steam says it's having trouble connecting to the server, and I am positive that i put my password in correctly.

Playse halp...

EDIT:
err... update... umm... Apparently my account was deleted... I went to retrieve lost info, and it said that the account doesn't exist... i went to the steam website to log in, it says the same thing... What the ****ing hell is with that? What did I do? O_o

Come on guys, i need some help, what do I do?

I'm having exactly the same problem at the moment. How long has this been happening for you?

ever since about 4:00 am central time... You think the steam network is down? I guess that'd be a lot better than losing all of my account info. :/

Also having this problem, steam is down, there's a thread on the facepunch forums too. If you're logged in , don't log out, because you can't get back in. I rebooted my comp before and now I can't log in

Steam is down since approx. 2 hrs. If you're logged in it's ok (apart from Friends being offline), but if you aren't logged in, you can't connect anymore.

So, for aboutt he last 5 hours? It would be unusual for the Steam network to be experiencing such problems for so long without there being any news about it, but nevertheless the fact that 2 random people start having the same inexplicable problem at the same time leads me to suspect that it is a problem on the Valve side of things. I also can't open the support pages at steampowered.com.

I meant 8:00, in my frenzy to fix the problem I wasn't thinking, and i put the wrong time... by 4 hours... O_o

Well, before this I had tried to retrieve my lost account info, and I put in the right e.mail, but it hasn't sent a message yet, so I'm betting that most of the network is down.

i was really worried there for a bit too... Thank god for this forum. XD

Steam is great as a distribution medium etc., but this is another example of how making it a requisite to have Steam running for any of your games to work is a terrible idea. I hope Valve sort it out quickly (although I guess they already haven't sorted it out quickly).

That's what I thought since I got it... i think in offline mode it should just be that you can't play multiplayer only games, or access the community, or the store, things like that, but games that you have installed should work without the damn internet. The computer should recognize an account, and if you have multiple one, ask you which you would like to play from. it would be a lot more efficient.

Yah, I'm locked out too. I don't like it that you have to disable your internet to get into offline mode...

The problem is that Steam apparently deletes the "stored login info" which is required for offline mode to work, once it detects that there is an internet connection but can't contact the Steam auth servers. Must be an anti-piracy thing.

Edit: Still down for me. :(

Not working for me. :(
