Whenever I log into steam and refresh the servers list, they don't refresh and instead my internet connection goes kerplunk. I'm really adept at troubleshooting my home network, which I set up and maintain, but this is something I'm stumped with. I can't see that it has anything to do with my settings, but it is in fact something steam is doing to block my connection to the internet. I haven't yet checked whether it affects all PC's on the network or just mine. I can recreate the problem by attempting to do what I described. After a while, or after a reset of the computer, the net works fine again.

EDIT: Hmm... it's been doing it yesterday, and today, but for some reason not right now.

Wow... I just now realized that I posted this in the wrong section.

I'm having so many problems with my STEAM games right now.

Sometimes, I have that very problem.

It's doing it to me again.

It's totally doing it to me again. I log into steam, go into TF2, and prior to that my net is working beautifully, and I refresh servers list... it updates them all. I try to join any server it cannot find server, and I realize my entire net has shut down. It's done it to me again dammit!

I can't even play TF2 now even though I want to. It's like fate is conspiring against me to play this game.

Did you ever find a remedy for this? The same problems has just recently started to affect me. But it was working fine about a week ago, and no changes have been made anywhere.

My mate used to have the problem that steam would shut down his internet. Recently he found that he had a dodgy filter attached to his wall-socket. Dunno if it was the main cause, but it's something to check out anyway.

I am having this same problem at the moment.

I connect to steam and my internet connection crashes. It is dsl with AT&T. ****ing spys.

This is why I can't play TF2.

Raz, what equipment do you use for your connection? Check to see if there's been a firmware update to your router/hub/modem and then check steampowered to see if this update has caused any compatibility issues with steam.

With luck you'll be able to rollback or disable whatever's causing this. :hmph:

EDIT: GOD DAMN OLD THREAD. WHAT THE ****

I have the latest firmware for my router...(they never update as much as they should these things, honestly).

And yes old thread, but it still happens from time to time.
