When i install games on steam it usually downloads at around 500 kbps. Right now im downloading Dark Messiah and its speed is about 9-15 kbps. Its taking forever, ive tried reconnecting to internet, restarting computer etc etc, nothing works.

What could be the problem? Nothing else is downloading or using bandwith.

thanks for the help. It boosted up to about 100 kps so atleast thats better.

It might be your server. Or Steam's servers aren't working right. You can always try stopping the update and continuing it again. Or try downloading something from the internet directly. See what speeds you're getting.

I just downloaded a TF2 update on my new com wirelessly, at it hit an epic 988kbps..

God that's almost a Mib! How I envy you...

Getting problems myself, just tried the .blob trick

great

deleting ClientRegistry.blob worked great thanks.

Mines going at 1.4Mb/s at the moment.

I do get times when it runs shitty though, usually works after a restart at worst.

Old thread...but doesn't matter.

Jack make sure you have Steam set to the correct speed internet you have, go to View > Settings, then the 'Downloads + Cloud' tab, ensure the internet speed is correct & your download location is right.

If you have a firewall, make sure Steam is being allowed through and make sure your router isn't blocking any of the ports Steam uses, you can forward them with a guide on portforwarding.com.

The clientregistry.blob file is worth doing 1st as it is quite often the problem and is a simple fix. You can find that file in the X:/Steam folder.
