steam error plz help

hey all its me again...im having a prob getting steam to work for me. i dld and installed it and now im trying to set up in dos. I did the username password pet name and answer and i am getting this error:

unable to open hldsupdatetool.exe for reading (copying)

Anyone able to help? please

Why are you trying to set it up in DOS? What OS do you have??

im setting up a dedi server and thats what the read me file said to do...is there an easier way?

That's not DOS, that's a command prompt, and I'm sorry, but i can't help

i cant help u either.....i dont use that garbage ne more u cant rely on it....i wish 1.5 was always around but when steam took over it just sucked ass

Have you made sure hldsupdatetool.exe isn't read only?
