It's been a while since we've heard from the Valve Linux blog but they've finally posted an announcement about the official beta. Valve are starting an internal beta next week and a small external beta of 1,000 users "sometime in October." Hopefully we'll see that number expanding over time as testing continues. The beta will include access to the Steam beta client and one Valve game which we assume is Left 4 Dead 2. To start with the beta will not include Big Picture Mode or other Valve games, but we can expect the client to be more feature-complete by the time of public release. If you're interested in being a tester keep an eye on the Valve Linux blog as a sign up sheet will be posted there at a future date.
