Steam Freezes

When I try to play steam and any of its game all the shit does is it freezes on me. Once the games start loading and gets near precaching resources it just freezes never moving any futher than that. Is there something I need to do to fix this? Like earse a certain file?

Well I don't think so. I did put steam on a private folder of mines. Would that be a problem? And the only firewall I can think of is Norton anti virus which I close that program before I play. It just stays there on that same screen. I play steam about 6 months got a virus some how and had to fix my computer and now I redowloaded it on the same computer and it won't run. So I am quite pissed of now. I look at steampowered and everything.

ive been having that. just today though. i tried getting on CS and DoD and neither worked. got to the same points. although when i tried TFC and OP4 it worked fine. i have to reformat in the next day or so anyway, so i hope that will fix it.

Well I just reinstall steam and it saids this

Program Not Found

Window cannot find NOTEPAD.EXE.

This program is needed for opening files of type 'Text Document'.

Type in the excutable file to be used instead:

C:\



(BASICALLY HERE I just gotta find a place to put it.)

And crush 500 some of your games are working but all of mine aren't

LOL if you're missing notepad you've got bigger problems than steam not working my friend. May I suggest you clean up your pc before doing anything else.

-Use softs like Tweak XP to clean your reg
-Run Regedit yourself and check in HKCU & HKLM under software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/run to see if you have other nonsense that shouldn't be there
-Use a soft like Ad-aware regularly to remove any crap you may have got installed - like Gator

Then do a clean install of Steam :E

Found all the problems I know of:

HAVE VIRUS MAYBE HAVEN'T CHECK YET

Have Router that I need to change ports

Need notepad

High pings.

I think it's time you just backed up everything run a virus scan on that.

And then do a complete format.

Careful with regedit. Non-Computer techies should stay away from registry unless they want to screw up their computer.

Pop in your windows CD and restart. There should be an option to reformat and reinstall windows.

I am not sure if I need change ports yet

No virus I checked. I just have some hard ass spyware that won't go away.

And high pings I haven't fix yet but I got it under control.

It only happens the first couple of times after you first install it.
(thats why my steam froze on precatching resources)

Lets hope so because I am quite tired of this I give it two weeks and than I say forget it and just get the SP version of halflife 2.

dude it seems like Steam is not the big problem u have.
u need to straighten out whats going on with ur comp before u worry about Steam.. i think a format is in order.. start fresh then give Steam a chance.

personally i haven't had any trouble with Steam since October 2003.. its been very stable.. and many others here will tell u the same.

Nope it was steam. I got tfc fixed but Cs I still gotta work on. I just listen to links advice and it work I just gotta keep trying to log on and after awhile it will connect. I did that tfc and it work now I gotta to it to CS and hopefully it will work. :thumbs:
