Valve have posted an update on Steam Powered announcing the near completion of their Steam Friends beta phase.[br]
The Friends system is also nearing the end of its beta phase, and will soon be available
to everyone running Steam. Friends allows you to see when your friends are playing games, and lets users chat with each other both inside and outside of many Steam games. There are also a number of additional features we'll be adding to it over
time. Early next week, we'll be updating Steam with a convenient way to join the Friends beta.
If you can't wait to try out friends then visit this page that explains how.[br]
[br]
Valve have also announced they are going back to retouch some older Counter-Strike: Source maps and giving them an HDR pass. Soon you'll get to play maps like de_dust with full High Dynamic Range lighting.[br]

Will the stutterbug fixes be included too?
...

No they won't.

Friends disappointed me because all my friend contacts from 2 years ago (when it last worked) have gone. Friends' old sound alerts remain, which i like though, for nostalga purposes.

Woo this sounds good! Time to bring the old boy back. :)

Cant wait to see aztec/inferno with HDR. Oh man.

Dust with HDR? No thanks, I like it just the way it is.
Now if they optimised OTHER maps properly (Inferno COUGH) then I'd give them a thumbs up.

Dust is perfect as it is, leave it, and my FPS, ALONE.

Aww ffs, you can keep it disabled its not going to hurt your fps.....:|

I would be fine with them adding HDR if I knew my FPS wouldn't change...On maps with HDR when I have it disabled my FPS are still 10-20 frames lower then a normal map....I don't like the idea...

Even if it slows you down now, you'll be happy with HDR when your computer can run it smoothly..

Meh, I'm happy with Xfire, I have no need for Friends on Steam. HDR though, thats kick ass. I think they need to optimize Militia more than anything.

I'm glad for the friends thing... I never use Xfire (not willing to have yet another app. running with all my CPU intensive games).
I really wish BF would get their arses going in this department too. :/

That's because those maps are also much more intensive with models and texture details.

Compare a map like aztec with something like militia or nuke and you will see what I mean.
