Steam got fudged

Steam updated itself this morning when I ran it, and now whenever I click Play Games it freezes. Even if I start it up and try a shortcut to get into something (I've only tried Hammer), I get a .dll error. Anybody know why they did this to me ?

you ovbiously have an error somewhere in your software, i would recommend reinstalling steam

Happens to me, usually happens when a game has to update.
Wait like 5 - 20 minutes before doing anything or just start up steam and go do some other task while it updates.
