Aye, you've read about them. Now... You'll read about them again. Steam Guest Passes, "a new feature that will
allow owners of certain Steam-enabled games (purchased either via Steam
or at retail) to send a friend limited-time trials for those games," are now in their closed beta state and soon will be made available publicly.
Later this week, new menu options will appear within Steam as Valve
initiates the closed beta for Guest Passes, a new feature that will
allow owners of certain Steam-enabled games (purchased either via Steam
or at retail) to send a friend limited-time trials for those games.[br]During the beta period the new menu items will appear on all Steam
accounts, though the ability to send the Guest Pass will be inactive.
When this closed beta concludes, Valve will extend the Steam Guest Pass
Beta to Day of Defeat: Source owners.[br]Similar to the Free Weekends, Guest Passes are another example of
advanced service and functionality that can only be offered through
Steam, the leading platform for content delivery and management.[br]For more information, please visit www.steampowered.com
The proof is in the pudding.[br]tapioca

FYI, more information has been published here at the Steam Support website.

Yet more proof that Valve is revolutionizing the gaming industry via Steam... I love it.

Btw, neither of those links work on the front page for some reason... they just show up as "http:///" (but both work here in the forums).

That's... Odd.

That sounds pretty neat.
I think I might give some to my brother so we can multiplay.

Do we know what kinds of limitations there are?

Sweet, going to be giving out some passes myself.

Sounds interesting. Now all I need are some friends.

This will be great for arranging lan parties. Theres nothing more annoying than inviting half a dozen people to a home lan and only having 3 steam accounts between 6 of you and having to opt to play CoD2 or something else.

That's.. exactly what happened at our last LAN.. right down to having to play CoD2 o_O

Finally, Guest Passes resurface! Another cool feature of Steam is being introduced. I can't wait to try this. Thankfully, I got DoD:S. :)

Bah, going Steam-less after this for a month because I'll be in Malaysia...

Time limited trial accounts? Hardly revolutionary.

So, who here does NOT own DoD:S? :)

(PM me if you don't!)

Can someone send me DoD: Source? Plz? I don't have source, And I wanna see what its like. My steam account is ace_pilotf14...

So how do we know if we get the Steam passes to send to someone? Does a windows pop up when I restart Steam?

There's a manage window - I think it does pop-up when you have passes available (IIRC, it did for me). If not, just check it every now and then.

-smash-, why do you have a couple of games blurred out?

Unreleased games?

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
