I believe I've found a bug in the HalfLife2 launcher portion of Steam.
I have a Toshiba 6100 laptop. The game crashes the machine (hard shutdown) when the battery gets low. No warning of any kind, just a shutdown (even with the power supply in use.) No such problem with same laptop running HalfLife, HalfLife:Source, CounterStrike, CounterStrike:Source or any other game. JUST HL2.
Initially couldn't figure out why the game would crash after approx 1.5 hrs of play. Any attempt to restart the game immediately after a crash would initiate another crash. Noticed the "charge" light on the laptop was ON whenever playing the game (even if it hadn't been on during boot or other activities PRIOR to playing.)
Attempted to verify this to be the case by playing the game for one hour after a full charge given to battery and then quitting game and checking battery charge level. Sure enough, battery drained just over half (what I would have expected when using the machine for an hour straight.) To verified it to be a battery-related issue I physically removed the battery and attempted to play the game. Bingo - Hard shutdown during the Steam load sequence.
It appears that the Steam software is conflicting with the Toshiba 6100 and forcing the machine to run off the battery rather than the external power supply.
Any ideas on to whom this should be directed for resolution? Do the STEAM developers read this forum or is there an email account to which I can send this bug report?
Tnx!
