Basically what the title says, im sure you guys have seen this before, so I was wondering what you did to fix it.

I went to the link they supplied, and it didnt help at all.

I have no viruses, adware or spyware...
My comp is not networked....
I turned my firewall off...

No background programs running that are not totally essential to windows other than steam...

Connection has been tested and perfectly stable.
My isp is earthlink, so no problems there...
Cable....6 mbits/s.....

So yeah...wtf....

I just paid 59.95$ plus tax for games I still have yet to even load up....

I even updated steam...nothing is helping.

O also, I checked the steam servers and none of them are running anywhere near or at maximum capacity....

And yes, I did do a search on this forum for this topic.

Any thoughts?

exit and retry after reboot, or just wait, it does that sometimes...

Thats what ive done a hundred times in the past 5 hours...exit...restart...it reloads...try to download again..keeps having connection problems...

How long does this normally last?

Because i heard sometimes with new subscriptions it takes a while to recognize the new username...but I did what steam advised and logged out and logged back in and nothing changed...

So is it just a matter of time for the servers to recognize my account or....is this going to be a real problem?

I mean if this is a common thing that happens to alot of people a few times a month then im fine but is this something else?

Theres a freeware application called HijackThis on the net.

If you run it, it will allow you to create a log you can post here, that'll show everyone details of what state your machine is in right now- Its like a snapshot.

Post the log after you've got the error, and maybe someone will notice something.

Ok, scanned and created logfile, here it is....

get rid of that zonealarm vector crap. Plug your NIC directly into your DSL/Cable modem to check your router. some of them don't work with steam.

I concur with Dirk, I think Zonealarm is stopping the connection from working. Try disabling the firewall completely, and see if it works. If it does, you know the problem must be in its configuration
