Steam keeps asking for the CD I don't have...

I bought a retail copy of HL2 and then I realized it was a crappy deal. The same price got me way more, if I bought it off of Steam. So I took the retail copy back and got a refund, then I bought a copy of HL2 Silver Edition off Steam. However my account is still set up with the retail CD key and I can't start the game because Steam wants the CD in the drive. What can I do?

No I uninstalled the reatail version before I downloaded the steam version. The problem is the reatail CD key is still attached to my Steam account and so it thinks I am running the retail version.

Wait, so you have a retail account but you registerd a silver on the steam account?

Doh you should of made 2 accounts then you could of had 2 copies of hl2.

Well the only thing i can think of is a nocd.

Of course imediatly after I registered my new purchase on my steam account I realized the error of my ways. I don't want to use a No-Cd patch cause I don't want to get banned.

I would contact valve themselves then.

Explain the situation and ask for their guideance.
