Steam keeps on freezing

Ever since I installed the last update Steam everytime I click "Play games" the program just stops responding. I tried restarting the computer and I'm thinking of uninstalling Steam but I don't want to take so drastic a measure. Is there anyone else with a similar problem or that could help me with this error?

i am stuck with various percentages of updating and i have uninstalled/reinstalled steam still no joy. It seems Steam leave it to the community to solve their problems
