Valve have added a new section to Steam store that showcases games that you can get alpha or beta access to when prepurchasing. While some games have offered this on an individual basis in the past but now the Early Access section now provides an easy way to find these titles and a message that a game has Early Access available is now displayed on the game's store page. The first games available in the Early Access section are:
  • 1... 2... 3... KICK IT! (Drop That Beat Like an Ugly Baby)
  • Arma 3
  • Drunken Robot Pornography
  • Gear Up
  • Gnomoria
  • Kenshi
  • Kerbal Space Program
  • Kinetic Void
  • Patterns
  • Prison Architect
  • StarForge
  • Under the Ocean

Woo, I no longer have to constantly download new versions of Gnomoria and Prison Architect and feel bad for not playing them! Now Steam will take care of that for me!

Does anyone even know what the hell trunk_slamchest is talking about anymore?

Hasn't 123 Kick It been in this state for 2 years now? I'm wondering how long you can call something alpha / beta / early access while being so widely available. Dota 2 isn't too dis-similar in that regard...

It's almost like an anti-review badge. "Don't cast your opinions on this game, it's not finished yet!"

I was thinking the same thing at the weekend Glenn. People are still referring to DOTA2 as unreleased, yet its the most active game on Steam, has holiday specific event updates, and a paid item store.

My inventory is also bursting at the seams with DOTA2 keys that I literally cant give away.

I suppose if they were to release DOTA 2 in it's current state it would be "unfinished", because it's still missing heroes. I assume they'll release it once every hero is in, and has been balanced properly.

There's also all of the learning features they've only begun implementing, like tutorials and the coaching system. Those are key to bringing in new players.
