steam messes up HL1?

i just started playing HL1 today (cause HL2 is far away) and i noticed that right at the beggining, where you get your radiation suit, it give me this error, something about sv_startsound 150, and exits HL. Its pissing me off, cause i dont know what it is anyone else have this problem?

I played completely through Steam-powered HL1 without any significant problems. Rarely I would crash (happened maybe 4 times throughout the entire game), and about 3 times I would land on a box or something similar and be unable to move (not lockup, but I couldn't move off the box).

IIRC, entering your suit may trigger an EAX or A3D profile. Try changing those settings (enabling or disabling EAX or A3D depending on which you support) and seeing if that helps.

It's about the volume slider.. THe Hev suit volume is broken, don't move the slider past the middle mark and you should be ok.

Oh yeah.. when you DO get it working remember to jump regularly when you're on lifts going up and to try to avoid walking on things bobbing up and down. (there's a bit in Opp Forces where I had to noclip in order to avoid getting stuck).

Later revisions of how the HL engine worked made some elements of the single player a bit buggy. The lifts with loading triggers on them are especially guilty.

I just played through hl and I'm currently fighting the boss of op4. I got the sticking on floating boxes situation a lot but even noclip didn't do a thing about it. It looks like when you type in a cheat of any kind (god,noclop,...)it doesn't register most of the time.(yes I typed in sv_cheats 1 first) As I said before I'm at the last boss of op4 and the frame rate is really bad (probably bad r_speeds). Am I the only one with this problem?

Kalayq: Right click on the OpForces icon, choose options, then click Launch Options.

Put:

-dev

in the textbox then ok & close it all.
Now noclip will work everytime, use it again to turn it off.

You need to set sv_cheats before loading the level. Then it will work.
