hmm, was just thinking. those who only want hl2 for its SP. they could just sign up to steam for 1 month and pay the $6 or however much it is, and then have hl2 for a month. they could beat it in that time easily, and stop paying after that. so basically saving themselves a lot of $$.

this is assuming valve is still going to do their monthly plan(the one where you get access to all valve product on steam) which they announced a while back.

after this, if they wanted to get some MP, they could buy CS:S separately and play that, or buy TF2. while only paying an actual $6 for the halflife2 experience. seems kinda like a shady loophole that many would do if they could. i wonder if valve sees this coming.

**** dude. dont bring up this monthly shit again. i would ahte that. i already bought all their ****ing mods and stuck with them through this shit. they better not **** me over like that. monthly is bullshit. they know damn well people will be playing this game for 10 years or more. at 6 dollars a month that is 720 bucks for a ****ing piece of software. NO VALVE! NO!

first, calm down before you bust a blood vessel.

second, this monthly payment plan is AN OPTION. and im just saying instead of people paying the full $50 to buy halflife2 like they normally would, some will just pay $6 and have it for a month, to beat it. and then that will be it. seems like valve will be losing money this way.

Well, they could fix the loophole by having a minimum subscription - 3 months for instance.

im really hoping they just got rid of this whole idea
A monthly charge is for people who dont buy it. If you plan on buying it, why care?

yeah I don't see too many people ever really choosing this option. Why pay monthy and get crap you may not want, when you can get exactly what you want for a specific, one time cost.

well.. the Steam subscription option probably isn't for anyone on any HL2 site/forum.. i think this option is mainly for those aren't really fans of the game but are gamers and would like to try the game out.. or perhaps pay this subscription fee and clear the game within the subscription time and move onto something else.

i think of this subscription option sort of like "renting Valve's games"
at the end of this subscription time one can decide whether paying in full for the game is worth it to them or not.

they cant afford to throw something like a monthly charge in our faces. we have enough people on the verge of not buying the game, me for instance, because of all the **** theyve put us through.

i certainly wont bother buying hl2 if it has a monthly payment, or multiplayer for that matter.

i think u have mis-understood the Steam subscription idea.
if u purchase a retail copy of HL2 or decide to purchase it through Steam, there are no subscrition fees...meaning u have paid in full and have access to all the content which HL2 brings along with it.

if u do not own a copy of HL2 and do not wish to pay full price for the game, well thats where the subscription service comes in.

for a monthly fee (it could be monthly or whatever Valve decides) u get access to all of Valve's games and u have that time to play and decide whether the game(s) are worth full price.

understood? good!

I thought the subscription fee was for extra content and cheaper games down the track, not HL2 and other full priced games.

Have you ever rented out a video?

NO BLOCKBUSTER!! NO!

EDIT: Make sure you read the quote just above this line, it's different from the one at the top.

I'm sure you could compare it to blockbuster but you're missing his whole point.

IF they start charging monthly even if it is an option they might get the bright idea that "gee we might just make EVERYONE pay per month, no option".

It's better not to plant the seeds of something like that even to begin with.

subscription isnt aimed at people in forums like this, right? we're all going to be playing forever, and there will be no justification in paying forever.
so who is it aimed for? casual gamers are just going to go and pick it up from the shops. no way they want to screw around with some "steam" application and use their credit card on the internet.
i cant see anyone gaining from steam subscription.
do valve even think about these things?
they delay one game forever, so who can be at all sure the subscription price will be matched by the content? tf2 doesnt seem to be coming for over half a year after hl2, and cs:s and hl:s come with hl2 already. what are they going to charge people for? dod:s? sven coop2? this is all supposed to be FREE CONTENT.

i cant see anything except for tf2 that is going to cost money, and that is going to be delayed to hell too, with valve's track record.

subscription, no thanks.

you'll just end up paying 100 dollars for hl2 and tf2. then when you cancel subscription, you are left with nothing! there is NO logic in subscription.

u either did not read through my post or ur ignoring the fact that not every gamer is a HL series fan.
u decide which is it.

i have friends who are into MP games and really aren't interested in SP games.. and a few of them have mentioned to me about trying the subscription service to test out HL2's MP... they say they'd try it for 1 month and see if they like it and go from there.

so yeah.. the subscription service certainly doesn't seem like it works for u, but it does for others out there.

i dont really see them aiming as a try before you buy system though, it looks more like its aimed as a "hardcore gamer system" becuase you can "have access to all valves games".
i didnt reply to your message because i didnt read it.i was just stating my opinion on steam, that they dont know who to market the subscription service to.
valve just cant come out with enough content, it will all get delayed to hell.
maybe you should even read my thread, before you reply, as i said that most casual gamers wouldnt want to trust a piece of software with their credit cards or pay for a game download.
