We're a little behind on this one, but hey - Steam's a bit quirky about showing you news updates. In any case, a new Steam message alerts us to Valve's interest in community discussion about the Half-Life 2 storyline and give us a bit of info (but no screenshots, unfortunately) about two new Day of Defeat: Source maps, as well as their fresh gameplay mode.

One of the by-products of moving the Half-Life story forward in episodic form is that the community has lots of interesting things to talk, argue, and make guesses about between installments. There have been many unofficial attempts to chronicle the story's various questions and answers, and two of them have recently caught our eye here at Valve. They are Chan "Ventro" K's Half-Life Saga Story Guide and the Wikipedia Episode One page. Note that these pages feature key story elements from Episode One, so we wouldn't recommend reading them until after you've played through the game.

The next big update coming to our multiplayer games will include two completely new maps for Day of Defeat: Source, named Colmar and Jagd. (Long-time Day of Defeat players will recognize the name Jagd, but the name is really all the new map shares with its predecessor.) Both maps will have slightly differing takes on a new gameplay style we're calling "Detonation". Both will be released on the 28th of June, along with other updates to the game itself.

Now, I know I'm not making any ridiculous assumptions when I say that I'm not the only one who's excited about the new DOD:S maps, not to mention curious about how dod_jagd's changed, so stay tuned - I'll post more news about them the instant I find it.

"Detonation" hmm so instead of planting the bomb were going to blow it up? or are we going to actually blow up certain structures and stuff?

Saw this a while ago. Good stuff coming up.

All of the bomb maps in CS have de_ prefixes on them. To my recollection, de_ stands for detonation so in theory it could be exxactly the same gameplay style as that.

As long as it's not played in rounds... Anyone remember when the team tried that with what was it... Day of Defeat v2.1? This is the v2.1 which came after the gigantic v2.0 update which came before v1.3b... not the other v2.0. Well in anycase it had airborn of the allies and axis facing of against each other in rounds. It failed.

I thought de_ stood for defuse...

It does... he might have been thinking of Soldier of Fortune 2, where de_ stood for detonation, but was basically the exact same thing as defuse.

I think NeoNight thought the detonation mode was for CS... He said "instead" implying that there was already a bomb game mode is DOD: S, which there isn't.

Sounds neat though.
I'm willing to bet one of the targets will be a Flak 88. That's like, the most common thing ever to have to blow up in WW2 games

Haha, oh god that's so true...

Well, it is pretty accurate to history.

But I have a feeling Valve is going to come up with some creative stuff.

The storyline saga link is abit flawed in some of its theories. Oh well.

ooh! can't wait for more DoD maps, playing the same first set at my local LAN is getting old - but screams across Kalt will never wear off.

Pity i havn't got Epi1 yet - stuipd cashflow

From what I've been reading in the official foruns and looking at the screenies released sometime ago I think it's preety safe to assume that the new style of play will resemble the satchels we had in dod 1.x :)

dod_glider anyone?

"Good job! Marc Laidlaw pointed this out to me as being pretty darn accurate for the most part."

- Gary McTaggart (Valve)

Seems that if Valve are linking to it though on an official steam update, he must be doing a pretty goof job with his theories, who is to say they are flawed? Until Valve come out and either fill in all these blanks, or say that these theories are rubbish, his theories are just as good as yours :P

EDIT:- and Marc really just says the it`s the Combine who chased them there, he doesn`t say if they are under Combine control or not, which if it was the case that they are, then technically, the Combinae are on Xen.

Anyway, we know where these discussions go, so I`ll just agree to disagree :D

Picket Valve! Give us Ep 1 NOW!
Who's coming with me to Seattle?

I just can't wait to ride that new vehicle...

Not at all. Hence the 'unofficial' story guides. He's spent time making a site about their game, innacurate or not they are going to link it just for credit - it has nought to do with the content.

Why would they prescribe the reading of a blatantly inaccurate guide?

To purposely confuse their fans?
