God knows what the hells wrong with Steam this time, and it aint the first time either. Ive lost count with the amount of times Steam screwed up.

Honestly Valve, its a great idea. But if you cant implement it properly. Screw the idea the idea, and stick your products to off the shelf purchasing.

I didnt pay £40 just to see a ****ing error screen.

You know we don't want to hear about your problems with Steam unless you have something new to add to the argument about it. I for one have pretty much zero problems with Steam and completely disagree with you.

While, conversely, I've had plenty of issues with Steam during it's earlier days, and I still encounter occasional problems, although they're not half as bad as they once were.

That said, we're not going to have much of a debate here...

zero problems? lol you must be the lucky ones. There is a new argument for it. Cant seem to enter to login to my steam account (yes it is a new problem). If you set your eyes towards steampowered forums. Youll see its the majority. Have a good day :D Ive got some complaining to do against Valve!

How do you explain this server crash then? Are we all supposed to sit and wait while they gather themselves together and get round to letting us play their game again.
If only they made bad games, then we could really slag them off.

Actually if you stop to think, it could be the majority of people who don't really have any real problems with it (aside from the friends list, thats a problem for everyone). People who have problems are directed to sign up on the Steampowered forums to talk about them. So doesn't that lead you to believe that its mostly only people who have problems that will sign up on those forums?

Server crashes are inevitable. I wouldn't blame that at all on the Steam software that you use. If you ever played over Battlenet for any Blizzard games then you should be somewhat used to server crashes. If you play any MMORPG's then you should be used to server downtimes.

Whats this Friends list bug everyone is talking about? Every time I connect to steam its on within about 2 seconds, I click friends and it says 'You are signed into friends' I click Sign on and they are there, the only prob I've had is one friend wont stay on the list.

Todays steam problem is the first major one that ive had otherwise its a pretty cool beast.

Complaining here won't fix anything.
Fill out a steam support ticket.

The problem is Valve are giving us online problems for offline games. When the server is down we can't play Half Life 2. Problems are to be expected for CS: Source but for Half Life 2???? I want to play it when I want, it shouldn't be dependant on Valves server.

uhh.. you know.. it has offline mode for that.

offline mode doesnt work since you are required to login to your Steam account. Which still gives me the same error message

Steam support ticket doesnt really help. They send you an automated response, which is useless. They rely in at least a week (earlist ive had) and latest is 2 weeks. Thier usaul reply is to wait for the new Steam update. Ive used it 4 times already, in my opinion its a waste of time.

The Mullinator. Steam Powered forums isnt just for people who have problems with Steam. But from what i can see, in the forums. Its the majority of people who has the problem.

I wouldn't try and cite OM... it's still full of holes. Admittedly tiny pin-prick holes, but meh.

I.e., if HL2 detects an update when online, you can't play it offline until you've downloaded the aforementioned patch. Sometimes crashes can ruin OM functionality too, as, presumably, Steam feels a net connection is required for validation purposes (correcting install issues or some such).

No you are right it isn't just meant for people who have problems, but it is where you are directed to if you do. Plus since the majority of people here don't really seem to have any major problems (we have done polls in the past) then it just goes to show that maybe it really isn't "the majority".

No problems with steam till now, and it is taking all day !!
Valve please fix offline mode so we can play HL2 .

I haven't had too many problems with Steam. Really only two. This one now where a bunch of our accounts don't work (hopefully very temporary), and when the WON network went down my legal copy of HL1 wouldn't register because some little punk went and stole my reg-code. That pissed me off that they couldn't do anything to help me.

hardfought forums says:

January 29th -

0:1 and 0:0 are the authentication server your account uses to login.

The 0:0 server is up and functioning right now.
The 0:1 server is down currently.

The reason some people with 0:1 can still play right now is they were logged in before the downtime occured. If they log off and attempt to log back in, it won't work.

0:0 users can continue to log on or off to their choosing.

Just wait until the authentication server comes back up, until then there is nothing you can do.

Guess who just bloody logged out 15 mins ago to reset router - GRRRRRRRRRRR

If you don't like steam uninstall it and don't use it.

Don't come on here and bitch about it, we've heard it about 1000 times and the majority of us here don't have any problems with steam or care for you incoherent ramblings.

i had a problem with steam once!

I uninstalled it :hmph: the old fashioned way using the delete key

it competly nagered my account and i had to get it reset by the nice ppl at steam for free!

I once had a problem with Steam too!
Oh, no, wait, no I didn't :p hehe - unless the time taken to dl the setup file 1 1/2 yrs ago can be counted ....
I seem to be one of the lucky ones too. NEVER had a problem ever since the beta started (in fact, Steam has never been uninstalled or anything done to it since then :) )

i've been using battle.net for years [starcraft, d2 & wc3] and i've had basically 0 problems and the servers have practically never been down.

What realms do you play on? Because the last time I played Diablo 2 on USEast there were times when it was down for almost 2 days at a time. It got better after the 1.10 patch was released but it was still pretty unstable.

Ionium:
What keeps crashing? Steam? HL2? etc, etc ....
Or do u not want any help?

had update problems with steam . took 1 hr to download some update , i've got broadband 512mbit. dont think it should take that long before i can play the game.

steam didnt work at all for me or my friends when DOD was initially integrated into the system, the only problem i have now with it is that you cant see the country the server is in, unlike with browsers such as TASE

Server crashses aren't inevitable, and I would blame them on Steam and Valve.

Why? Because HL2 single player is not an MMORPG, or even online. It's an offline game that does not require steam to run, and should not require steam to run.
