Steam not loading

Since last weekend, steam does not load itself anymore.. It "Initializing" and not responding..
What is the problem?

Try deleting clientregistery.blob and platform.gcf(should be in the steamapps folder) while steam is exited then start it again.

Also go through the stuff you installed before steam stopped working or just after.

Do you have XFIRE?

I do have Xfire..

..And now deleted it.
Now it only gets stuck on login..

You might have to fix your LSP layer because xfire hijacks it.

It says "Connecting Steam Account: {my user name}"..

I did what the site said and it's still not working.

What programs have you installed just before steam stopped working and what programs just after.

I have ZoneAlarm firewall, but it never disturbed Steam..

Just before steam stopped working I installed Xfire, but I now removed it.

I would double check on the filters list and then when you are sure that it's not on its *blacklist* turn it off and then try to connect to steam.

Well it seems xfire has done something to your connection to steam it seems.

Well the LSP fix should of fixed it, I would run a spyware scan aswell.

So when you installed xfire steam stopped connecting?

(I did a stealth edit while adding links)

LSP fix didn't do anything. :/

I will run a spyware scan now.

When I installed xfire, I played 1-2 times on CS:S, and then it stopped working.

Did you install xfire then play on CS without closing steam? And then when you restarted your computer it did not start up?

Steam doesn't want to load

Steam doesn't seem to like me either, it just dies when trying to log in or something. Sometimes I get login boxes to put my details in, sometimes it automatically loads with my details, but after that it just seems to hang in nothingness, if I put anything in front of it the box will go grey instead of green, but nothing happens (has been left for about 2 hours now).

So, if you ever get this figured out, I'd like to find out what to do to play HL2!!

specs: 256 RAM, brand new 250 gig HDD, 64 Meg Graphics card (GeForce MX440??), AMD Athlon 1400 (or so), Win 98.
