and if that doesn't work... i cant play. lol

hi...

i havent done anything to my computer at all. i had stuff done to it before i installed the game... and everything was going smoothly. but then one day when i turned on the computer the computrer gave me this messege... [couse steam runs automatically at start up]

"Steam has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

i have already re-installed everything... and restarted my computer.. and it does the same thing.

so yah...
how do i fix that....

Need more details. What you're saying right now is too vague.

by more details you mean....

what exactly happened before i got that messege...
or my computer spicifications?

ill give you both.

i did download the dedicated server from the list of downloadable things on STEAM. and i downloaded the first "map bundle" [i think thats what it was called] from fileplanet.com, and had them unzipped into there proper position which i think was in C:/>program files> valce>STEAM>STEAM APPS> hamed [my name] > HALO life 2 deathmatch> HL2MP> HL2 mappack_volume one.... unzipped.

spicifications....

i think thats all you need... sorry i wasent much clear on the first post. if you tell exactly what you need... would be easier.

wow... i think those where the most specific system specs I've seen yet. but i guess he could go further. ok so I've searched around a little and I've found that for every one whos had the problem have had it with source and none source games and uninstalling then reinstalling has not helped any one, all I've found yet is that most people are saying it has to do something with the file location or the .dll file.

i dont know... i just copied them off of "PC Wizard 2006"
IF... your not being sarcastic. i dont really know much about computers.

Hmmm..

What you HAVE to have Steam running in order to play HL2? Well that sucks because what if you've got no internet? lol

k.. that didn't work.... any other ideas you guys want to give? im not in a hurry to play the game, but i want it to work though...

ok... I'v seached around looking for just the general message " XXXX.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"
and its mostly beeing corrupt files and possbile viruses. your running in offline mode you say? ok... I dont know if when you un-install steam if it un-installs all the HL2/source files... did you install steam off the cd? becuase if you did its possbile you have a version with some kinda bug in it that doesnt seem to want to work with your system... try copy and pasting all the stuff in your "SteamApps" folder so you dont have to re-install all the games and download the latest version at http://steampowered.com/index.php?area=getsteamnow. Its only 1Mb so even on a diel up connection it shouldnt take too long to download... run it and hope fully that should get it working... just log in, cut and paste the conntents of the steamapps folder back where it belongs, exit steam, login again and hopefully you should be set.
