I am sure other people have had this happen before. I can't log into steam. At first i could get into steam then it would say the game you are trying to play is not up at this time. So i went and reinstalled steam. Nothing changed. So i went and reinstalled everything. Still nothing changed. So i went and unistalled everything and reinstalled it and now i can't get into steam at all. It says that it can't connect the the steam server and to check your internet. And i tried to see if it was my fire wall so i took it off and still no change. can anybody help?

if i recall i said that was the old problem. That might have helped if i could get into steam.

Ok, what is the exact error message you get? You're a bit vague.

There are 2 that i get. If i try to log on when steam first starts up with the computer i get some weird thing that tells me something needs to be debuged. Then if i try to get on again it will just say it can't connect to the internet. http://aapobclan.netfirms.com/error.htm
There you will find some screen shots. Thanks for you help.

More specifically:
PreCondition Assertion Failed
Name: InRecvMsgData state
Program: C:\program files\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe
File: Src\CSClientConnection.cpp
Line: 1769

m_CurRecvState == eRecvMsgData

(Press Retry to debug the application - JIT debugging must be enabled)

Abort Retry Ignore
If you have this error, there is a very good chance you have a program like BitDefender running which has hooked your internet connection. You won't be able to disable this program, you will need to uninstall it completely and reboot in order to fix this problem.

You'll need to use some other Anti-Virus solution.

Also, have you looked at this one yet?

I found the problem. It was xfire. I was looking at the steam forum and there were several people that got the same error. And when they got rid of xfire steam worked again. It had something to do with the new version. I don't remember exactly. But thanks for your help.

You'd think the Xfire people would have checked it with steam ....

yeah i know. I was looking on the steampowered.com forum to see if anybody had had the same thing happen. And there was a big marked post that said new version of xfire may give you problems logging on to steam.
