Steam Offline...Not the ports?!

Ok, steam was working perfectly all the time since ive had it...until i tried to get half-life 2, i bought the game, installed it and got my key authenticated with no problem, but when it was unlocking the files, half way through it just stopped. And now steam no longer works, it says "you cant do this while in offline mode" the strange part is that other things like AIM, KAZAA, and my other internet games can no longer connect either!!!!! What did this game do to my computer!!! my friend downstairs has the game and is playing it!! so i dont think its the firewall ports. PLEASE HELP ME!!

I just started having similar problems, I was playing the game fine till yesterday till I unplugged my lan cable now its F***CKED

hmm, maybe try renewing your net connection

Start->Run,

cmd.exe

<return>

type

ipconfig /release

<return>

then ipconfig /renew

<return>

try it then
