A platform update is available and will be applied automatically when Steam is restarted. The changes include:

STEAM CLIENT CHANGES / ADDITIONS:
* Added Tools section to Steam UI
* Fixed Japanese, Thai, and Russian characters drawing incorrectly under Windows 98
* Fixed DoD:S showing up in the Steam monitor as downloading
* Fixed HL2 preloading stuck at 89% for some users
* Fixed condition causing "non-zero size of m_uMallocedBlock" message

* Fixed DoD:S showing up in the Steam monitor as downloading
Good. Now we don't have to argue with people every time CS:S is updated.

Is it just me, or has the GCFs been renamed, tHe base out of the filename is gone.

I believe Base shared source was for the beta... so it was kinda obsolete regardless.

I wonder what could cause the creation of a Tools section now?

The SDK, of course...;)

I think it's just because these things aren't games actually.
When I started Steam I got the message 'Validating Steam Files'. Here is the screenshot. Do you guys had that too?

Where is the new Tools section, i dont see it?

edit; bah.. never mind i got it :p

Neither have they been since Steam was first released.

I guess they just realised that putting the SDK under "My Games" was a bit of a stretch.

I still wish that steam had collapsable menus and the ability to remove games you don't want from the list (as to keep it un-cluttered)

Yeah, I like that idea (although I've got everything installed even though I'll never play some of them). Maybe get rid of all games which you don't have downloaded (the darkened out ones) and have a link at the bottom to view games that you have access to but aren't installed.
