Ok, I rather stupidly deleted the ClientRegistry.blob file and the platform.gfc file in the Steam and Steamapps folder. Steam still ecnountered a weird error, so i figured it was easier to uninstall and reinstall.

I was wrong.

Steam is now pretty much telling me that:

PreCondition Assertion Failed.
Name: HaveCmdLineArguements
Program: d:\program files\valve\steam\steam.exe
File: BootstrapperDlg.cpp
Line: 632

argc >0

Then the things of Abort, Retry, and ignore.

Hitting Retry crashes Steam. Hitting ignore gives me the further error

Debug Assertion Failed
Program: d:\program files\valve\steam\steam.exe
Line: 345

argc>0

With the same options of Abort, Retry and Ignore.

Ignoring that gives:

Precondition Assertion Failed

Name: EnoughCmdLinesArgs
Program: d:\program files\valve\steam\steam.exe
File: Bootstrapper.cpp
Line: 636

Argc > 0

Abort - Retry - Ignore

After you hit Ignore at this point Steam crashes and dies. Anyone got good advice here?

Don't eat yellow snow. :E

Do you use a desktop shortcut Jintor? Try this if so:

1 - Exit Steam

2 - Right-click your Steam shortcut and select Properties

3 - Select the Compatibility tab

4 - Uncheck Run this program in compatibility mode and click OK

5 - Restart Steam

Just a quick lift from steampowered and google.

What? THEY SAID IT WAS LEMON-FLAVOURED SNOW! D:

Will do, I'll check back in a minute.

/EDIT No go. Solution does nothing - problem seems to be with Steam, not the Shortcut.

//EDITEDIT Eh, fixed it by installing a newer version of Steam off the website.
