steam problem with half life

I bought half life 2 a couple days ago and it worked fine. this morning, when I clicked on the "play half life 2" icon, It just took me to the "buy half life 2" steam page. when i go to the My Games section on steam, It says under half life2 "preload complete"
what's wrong?
(and yes, i have steam)

Exit Steam and delete the Clientregistry.blob (in your Steam folder) and the Platform.gcf file in the Steamapps folder. But make a backup of them first, just to be sure Then restart Steam and see what it does.

I restarted steam, it seeems to work now (for the time being at least)

This happens a lot so when it does just restart steam.
