Steam Sales

Does anybody have any way or ideas of how many copies of HL2 have been preordered via Steam?

It will be very interesting to see sales via Steam vs. Boxed copies. I think that VALVe have really started something quite big here and as someone said to me once "You dont have to be the best, but as long as you're first!"

I say January 19th, 2005 because that is when Valve is doing the drawing for the Gold Package... so they might just say their sales reports then as well

I think it would be good PR if they released the number of people that would actually be playing the game on day of release via Steam. They will also know exactly how many people will register in total, as they [users] have to use Steam to unlock the retail version anyway, which I know isn't new.

Imagine :

16th November 2004. VALVe Software Inc announce record first day sales of the highly anticipated game HL2. Doug Lombardi was quoted as saying "Steam sales alone have been over 200,000 and add to that the number of retail versions that have registered within the first few hours, then we are looking at over 300,000 users."

I bet the ratio on the first bunch of sales will be roughly 2 steam sales to 1 retail.

I don't think Steam will sell better than retail.....people like to see and touch what the are buying.....I think retail is safe for the moment.....Of course it does not help that HL2 is cheaper from say Amazon or Game or HMV or the likes....

Ummm......I just like to think that people will be ordering 'totally' electronic from now on. I am very interested in the stats that do come out tho.

The PHL poll gives us a pretty good idea of what to expect. So far, Silver is in a slight lead.
