Sorry, I posted this in the wrong forum last time.

I have noticed a few flaws in the Steam.exe program. Not only does it run while you have the game running, but it keeps running after you exit the game. Not only that, but it starts up with Windows. I have disabled this "service", however, when I run HL2 it keeps re-launching. I have terminated Steam via CTRL+ALT+DEL... but the next morning when I returned from college Steam started itself up again.

Any service that requires server-type Internet access to your computer makes you vulnerable to attackers, but having one that is running 24/7 leaves a huge loophole in your system!

I hope Vavle fixes this with a patch or somthing. It's hard to trust a software program that requires trojan-horse like Internet access to play HL2.

BTW - It's hard to trust a program that requires Internet access just to play. (Especially when you bought the product, have a excessively long CD key to enter, and to top things off, requrie the CD to be in the drive at all times.)

Steam doesn't act like a server on your computer. It doesn't open up ports for outside computers to use.

Steam has to be running to play HL2 at the moment, it's the decision Valve has made for anti-piracy etc.

There is no real security thread from steam.
