Steam stop piracy 100%?

Hello,

Now I am not bagging steam or anything I think it has 'potential' even if it is a glorified DRM.

This is my prediction of sorts: You will be able to download HalfLife 2 ONE the day if not BEFORE release on many of the peer to peer download services on the net.

Now with that in mind......Would you feel cheated if you bought the game through steam? Or you went and bought the CD from the shop? I know I would.

Since WE the paying users will have to put up with Steam as a DRM solution and restricting its offline use. Ie. needing internet connection etc.

will the pirates roam free?

What do you think will happen this time around?

Steam wont stop piracy it will go a way to deter people from doing it.

Plus the mods and multiplayer will make HL2 what it is. That's the problem i think doom 3 had it was just a single player experience that you could play through once and that was it not much more left in it.

Also i belive having 1-2 weeks before everyone could get it encouraged people to pirate it.

But saying that doom 3 still sold really well.

Steam may be able to make it difficult enough to turn away most of your average 13 year old warez kiddies, and it may be able to keep crackers at bay for about a week after its released but thats about it. Eventually it will be cracked.

SP piracy is pretty much inevitable i think. but pirating the game to play MP legitmately has been impossible(unless you get very lucky(.1% chance) and generate a good key) since WON in 98.

SP is the only thing I care about, since MP is just Counter Strike with a new face.

But I thought you NEEDED steam and a KEY even to play SP!

I hope it does stop piracy, but if someone cracks it so you don't need steam at all, I will still buy the game but most likely I would us the crack as well so I wouldn't have to put up with steam

umm, to tell u, css is NOT hl2's multiplayer and dont go saying, where is the proof? because i will answer, they will have a dm mode, i am sure of it, and css is just comming with hl2, and is NOT the multiplayer of it

it'll be a lot harder to crack anyways, dont compare to any other game

this time you'll need a normal crack, + a steam crack to play it outside of steam, atleast if that's possible....

MP is even harder, you cant play online unless your on steam, you cant rip cd keys because most of them will be registered, you get banned if you get caught...anyone who tries to mess with steam and Valve is taking a big risk, that's for sure

People tried to crack it out of Steam with CSS, but it could only be done with the leak. Hardly an ideal solution. With constant updates that pirate's won't get, instability from the leak, no multiplayer, etc. pirating the game isn't going to be a very productive option. So it won't stop piracy, it will just make it a lot less worthwhile.
