Nice little Steam update news with Valve treating us to some more concept art like last week's Episode 2 car concept. This week...
In the same spirit, here's some from Team Fortress 2. These are 2 concept renderings of the Engineer's Sentry Gun, in its three stages of deployment

[br]How lovely, they certainly look to pack some power in the hectic world of TF2.

Looks awesome.

I imagine it's meant to be a bit crazy because I can't for the life of me see how all that is supposed to fit inside that smallish cylindrical casing at the back of the turret.

Looks like it's all supposed to fold out anyway, I think maybe the rocket launcher is an attachment?.

Three stages of development? I never played TFC, does this mean the cannon is upgradable?

Why is Valve releasing unskinned model renders? First the new car, and now this.

I don't want to nag, because I love it that Valve is finally releasing something, but it seems quite amateuristic.

if it is the same as tfc, the cannon is not upgradeable and only appears at stage three.

but for the love of god son, tfc is still fun..you should play it before tf2 comes out...it will make sure you are not owned on the spot.

the game is done. this is filler while they work on the ports...

Ooh, a rendering of an in game object! This is almost as good as the new car in episode 2! ...seriously, no one really gives a crap just release the damned game(s) already.

Nagging about unskinned models ... you guys should have seen the ingame Halo 3 video.

Yeah the engineer would come with his wrench and whack the thing until it got to the third stage. It would use up the ammo on the wrench though. The second stage is more accurate, faster. The third stage just has rockets on it.

ug. oh noes...the dreaded level 2 vs level 3 debate.

the level 2 is NOT faster and NOT more accurrate. one of the oldest urban legands of the game...

What? I think he meant that level 2 is more accurate and faster than level 1, and level 3 is level 2 with rockets.

Concept art coming out after the Episode should of been released.....is this a joke? Give us a friggen video of gameplay.

Um yes it is. Why would you upgrade it then if it's not improved? The second stage holds more ammo, more hp, and fires faster. It takes down people much faster than the slow firing of the first stage. The third stage is the same but it has rockets on it. Why do you think engineer's race back and forth for ammo and upgrading it even under heavy fire?

Well... "awesome". Good they release anything, but I could expect some new screenshots, game features and so on plus some more comments from Valve, this could be something if it means to get us hyped.

I don't see why it should have been 'out' when they gave an estimate release.

lol, oh the confusion.
He was saying that the level 2 gun isn't faster and more accurate than the level 3. This is not what the original poster intended, and apparantly you misinterpreted Zstopa's post to think he was comparing level 1 and level 2, which if you read it says right in the first line that he's talking about 2 and 3. I don't know where he got that idea from.
I also replied to his post, yet you still misinterpreted.

So everyone just shutup. :)

Oh dear, next Valve is going to release an unskinned generic Global Illumnation lit AK-47 render!? Jokes aside, it looks pretty cool.

correctamundo. just for clarification to those not in the know, there has been a long debate in the tfc community if its better to keep a sg at level 2 vs three as it has more pushback and tracks faster even tho it doesnt have rockets....wich is pure bollocks. been proven false. hense my post...thought we were seeing that arguement AGAIN :)

People need to learn that things such as this takes time.

and people also need to not be so naive - tf2 is done. release more gameplay videos now? the public will be screaming to release the game. they took a step back in releasing media, even though the game is done, to suit the now, what - dec 2007 timeframe? whatever it is now...that timeframe has nothing to do with tf2 - it has to do with ports to the xbox and ps3 and episode 2. tf2 is done lads. being tweaked b/c now they can - yes....but its done.

I was just thinking the same thing. What is going on with Valve? We used to see renders like this from mod teams before HL2 came out. Can't they at least give us screenshots of the stupid turret? It's just one letdown after another, they keep pushing back Ep2, they haven't been updating their MP games, they put ads in CS 1.6, and now they give us cheap unskinned renders. Remember when members of Valve would post on this very forum, and the 'Info from Valve' thread would grow several posts each day? They don't seem like the same company anymore.

Why does Valve seem to be releasing work resembling that of a 2 man mod team?
Unskinned renders and concept art? What the shit?

I think people are missing the point; these are not unskinned render of TF2 models. They are high-polygon models created as a concept, and doing concepts in 3d allows you to quickly and easily modify and add parts. The game-res models are built using these as reference.

Still, this seems like something that should go in an art-book (like 'Raising the Bar').

Seriously, who gives a shit?! Give us the game already!

If this were a "mod media release" I'm sure things would have been a lot different in the comments section.

for all those dead excited by the recent 'cconcept art' releases for Episode 2 & TF2 I have something quite exciting to show you;

Rumour has it the design guys at Valve sketched this onto a piece of loo roll when they were taking a dump & the strider was born!! 8 years later HL2 was born!
