Steam Update = Screwed Up Half Life 2

Ever since the newest Steam update I have been having insane problems with Half Life 2... before the update, the sound glitches were minor and i mean minor... maybe every 10-15 minutes I would get a 2 second delay while a new file loaded up.
However, since the newest steam update I have been having nothing but problems. The game is unplayable. The sound glitches in it make me want to rip my ears off.
I'm fed up with this shit. This game is going back to the store.
I wish Valve would just **** off and die.
I am hereby a very unhappy customer.

Found this in steampowered faqs:

"If you are now having the stuttering problem after the patch on 11/24 you can turn off the feature that was added by opening your console "~" in the game and entering the following command:

mat_forcemanagedtextureintohardware 0

This will disable the features added with the patch and you should be able to play without the stuttering."

Theoretically, that will fix your problem.

do you know where i can find a list of what was included in that update?
i assumed the update was only for HL2eathmatch...
but they must've done something else. cuz HL2 is screwed now.

Another bug i noticed was when i put in the cd and the autoplay screen pops up.I click Play Half Life 2 it launches HL2eathmatch instead...
Valve sure did sh|t the bed on this one.

Theoretically, that will fix your problem.

I think that means, if you didn't have the problem pre-patch but now experience it post-patch, you can disable it. It will do nothing for people who have experienced the stuttering all along (such as myself).

I personally have no hope for Valve to fix it...I've NEVER had a patch resolve an issue I was facing, and I won't be surprised in the slightest if this never gets fixed either.

Well you're the lucky one i guess...
never in my life have i had so many problems with a game...
i guess it back to warez for me...
f()ck paying for stuff, only seemed to get burnt in the process.

Haha I had the same luck as you, I even once bought a game (BG&E) and it seems ubi soft had spread thousands of bad copies of the CD, that weren't able to install, and they didn't tell anyone, and stores that knew of this problem still sold the game, and did not allow a refund.
But actually hl2 is for me the first legally bought game that didn't burn me, look mad valve are good to their customars, not only did they make a game that works fine on old pc's and still looks good, they constantly update their games to perfect them, and they have great communitly with a lot of people willing to help other people, I mean just look at this thred, you cursed valve and peopel still helped you. Common don't give up on them.
