Steam updateing

Ok for some reason steam will not work it loads and starts the update thing hits 30% than says it is temp unavailable. Can someone help me fix this, or Atleast tell me how to bypass the thing I just want to play my damn hl2 but steam is stupid.

Temp is a couple hours not lets see now. From about 7 or 8 pm yesterday to to about 4 pm now and it is still not working in the same error? Thank you for your "wise" words but as you can see it they are not needed.

I actually did try that earlier and it works now forgot to post it was fine now tho. Either way thanks for the help but try not to be so rude next time and I would not have jumped your case about it.

I wasn't being sarcastic, I was making a short post with the details you gave us. You construed it as 'the nasty old man being horrible', whereas I was doing it so I could avoid posting a long drawn out hypothesis of your situation from the tiny snippet you indulged us with.

Why is everyone so lucky? I uninstalled and reinstalled steam and it still didn't work. The only way I can get it to work is to refresh my IP address before each time I want to start steam.

For a start, what do you mean by 'Steam doesn't work'?
Error messages? Hanging?

No error message. Steam just runs in the background, as shown by the processes in task manager. I have no firewall running so why would Steam be conflicting with that? Ive uninstalled and reinstalled steam at least three times now and still the same results.
