steam validation confusion

After a 4 hour installation/validation ordeal i finally was able to play. cool. Steam validated the files, i got a reg number etc. What i dont understand is does steam have to validate files every time i want to play? This is unreasonable as it takes about 40 minutes (on dsl @ 1061.7 kbps). Can the game launch without using steam? And do i really have to disconnect from the net to make it work offline?


Valve really should have put some documentation in the box about the process and what to expect, and there should be something on the official website (not passing the buck to places like this to hope for an explanation). bad valve, bad

Hi there, I'm having exactly the same issue. I can play the game, but everytime I restart my PC, I have to go through the validating files process. I too am finding this very frustrating, as it also takes me around 20mins evertime I want to play the game (After I restart my PC).

If I close out of a game and go back in, I dont have to validate, so it looks like once I switch my machine off, it is losing my registration details.

Someone please help us

Same problem. Everyone fill outa form at steampowered.com and hopefully we can get this fixed soon.
