Steam w/ weekly DL limits

I would like to purchase HL2 through Steam (I'd rather give my money to VALVe)...But I haven't had much experience with Steam before.

At school I have a 2 Gig DL limit per week - it's pretty lame.

How big do you think HL2 will be? If it is >2 Gig, does Steam support partial downloads?

so far, it's about 3 gigs.

I think it'll be about 4.5 once we get it all.

just start preloading hl2 like we all have. you will have plenty of time to get the full game. Especially if it comes out in november ;(

The preload supports partial downloads. You can pause it whenever you want. I don't know if that is possible when the game is released though, so I suggest you start preloading right away.

The full game is 3.5GB. When Steam downloads, it gets compressed a version of the game which is 2GB.

Steam even supports playing the game with a partial download, but to play offline you have to have 100% of the game downloaded, so I'm not quite sure what would happen if you hit your cap half-way through playing.. it'd probably keep working until you hit a bit where you needed content you don't have.

If i just started pre-loading HL2, am I downloading everything that is up to date? Or am I downloading each phase seperatly?

I'm trying to keep track of how much I'm downloading and they only give you a percentaged completed.

Just start the pre-load and Steam will do the rest.

You're downloading everything that's up to date. The percentage is the percentage of all the currently released preload content.
