Hi all,

I've just bought HL2 on DVD.. I installed then ran steam through SocksCAP and HTTp Tunnel (I'm on a university network) and it seems to have updated and decrypted my HL2 installation fine (i ran it once and got to the menu okay).

Now I'm trying to run it in offline mode, and when I disconnect my network cable to do this, and run Steam, when it asks me if I want to use Offline mode, then damn thing just tells me it can't connect to the Steam network then it quits. I dunno what to do now. I don't want to play online all the time (I'm subscribing to HTTP tunnel just for this month to get it working) but there's no way of switching to offline mode when I do connect to Steam through HTTP-tunnel, if you know what i mean.

Do i need to wait for my key to verify or something?

Please help!

:)

Has steam updated itself? It might of done this silently but you will have noticed the icon in the taskbar changing to "steam is working" icon.

Yes it has as far as I can tell. The thing is, to be able to play, I have to use HTTP Tunnel and SocksCAP to get Steam to load to its main interface where I can do Play Games etc.

If I don't run HTTP Tunnel and SocksCAP, Steam thinks I don't have an internet connection (after sitting for a few minutes trying to update) and then asks if I want to run in Offline Mode. I say yes, but then it says it can't connect to the Steam Network (which it shouldn't be trying to do because I've told it I want Offline Mode) then it just quits. So, the only way for me to play HL2 is when Steam is connected and online :(

It's okay, it seems to have worked itself out now.. instead of saying it can't connect to the Steam Network after I click Start in Offline Mode, it actually does it now. Dunno why that should be, but it's all good now.

Thanks for you help :)
