Hi,

Im having a weird issue with Steam. I was playing yesterday night no problem at all. Woke up during the night and saw that there was a steam update.

I went to load steam to get the update, but it said i didnt have a net connection. I figured maybe i needed to restart. I shut my system down and went to bed.

Woke up this morning and im still getting the same error. I dont have any software firewalls running, but do have a hardware firewall in my wireless router. I should stress that nothing has been changed on the firewall/router since it worked last.

Any ideas? (im not running SP2, so its not their crappy windows firewall making decesions for me)

Does steam say it can't connect to the steam servers, or does it say that you don't have an internet connection?

No internet connection.

Did you press retry? or the "Network troubleshooting tips" link?

tried everything. I cant understand why it suddenly wont work.
I was playing CSS, i quit out of steam. Left my 'puter on overnight and now it wont connect. I cant get the latest update either.

You could try reinstalling steam.

if i uninstall steam and then reinstall it, will me HL2 and CSS content have to be redownloaded (if i dont back it up)?

I have another problem if anyone can solve it...

I just went to play CS and everything was fine.

Until i clicked server list and my PC froze and wouldnt do anything at all... :(

Sorry for stealing your audience btw :p

I would rather you had started your own thread actually. but not alot i can do about it.

ive opened a Steam support ticket type thing now.

Ive tried uninstalling, reinstalling, uninstalling + deleting every reference to Steam everywhere, installing slightly older wireless drivers.

I cant even play offline now. no more HL2 for me :(

Same thing happend to me. Everytime I try playing CS:S I get that error.

I just tried opening all the required Steam ports on my router, but still no luck.

This is seriously annoying now. The error pops up without even attempting to connect.

Im waiting for my Steam support ticket to get answered, but it seems to be taking forever.

Your not alone. I have this problem aswell. Tried everything. Nothing works. It's steam. Hopefully they will fix it, soon.

yeah this has happened to me many times make sure all of ur correct internet connections are connected, also i tried logging into steam not to long ago and it said it was having problems so does any1 have info on that? plz reply would be greatly appreciative

hey. sorry for not getting back here. It looks like it was a problem with my WINSOCK settings since i installed SP2.

A reinstall of Windowx XP (without SP2) fixed it for me.

Valve forums have an announcement saying that this was recently fixed.
