Stereotypes 'n' stuff

Okay, so we all know many different stereotypes. Let's hash 'em out, analyze them (meaning, origin), and see if they're still applicable in today's society.

I think it's mostly that the "N" word carries with it the connotation of slavery. "Cracker" does not carry with it a connotation of any great injustice or bad thing, so us whites don't really respond to it in the same way.

Naw, dude, that's okay. It's great. I hear a lot of people talking about how biased Fox News is, but I don't see a great deal of them listing examples. I personally have never watched Fox News.

ive only watched fox news once, and the reporter stodd there for 10 mins verablly assaulting a car dealership because its display of american flags where in a horrible state. then the reporter said "if there are more people like this here in america, it will only be time before the terrorists win" after that i changed the channel cuz i couldnt stop laughing

Okay, I lied...I did catch a glance of a morning show on Fox News once. The only thing I remember was that they were playing golf or something and I was thinking "Jeez...the're one huge difference between these female anchors and those on CNN: the ones on CNN don't look like cheap whores."

That's ridiculous, people like that...I just cannot help but be stunned at how someone could have such a thought process. Not only is there no basis for that opinion at all, but the whole extreme nationalism did not turn out so well in a few places say... Germany in the mid 1930s to 1945. (Or italy and japan)

Fox news IS bad, but, there are equal but opposite newsprograms out there.

how far or close to the "mark" do you guys think stereotypes are? I think they have some basis of truth, But they are horribly exaggerated.

I.e Black people smoke crack, This has a basis, Crack use is rampant in poor urban areas (the ghettos) and simply because those areas have a large black population it translates into black people smoke crack.

Now, where did the "Jews are frugal with money" stereotype come from? I seem to remember something about Jews starting up the first banks back in the 13th century, but I can't be sure about that. Anyway, I've never met a single Jew who was any more a miser than anybody else.

steve, during the rennaisance the majority of mediterranean banks were run by jews. this tradition continued to the time of english empire, when it was expected that acountants, etc would be jews. bankers would be jews, and so on. this is how i remember learning it, i dont know if its solid factually or not... but its basically how it happened.

Big - Nope. They refer to my part of Louisiana as "cancer alley" because of all the chemicals in the river and groundwater. Stunts our growth.

Dumb - What are the 3 lowest ranked states in education? I think they're Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana (not necessarily in that order). So yeah, you could say that the average southerner is pretty dumb.

Ignorant Rednecks - Now, there's plent of truth in this one. These days, however, it's really only in the smalll, backwater towns that it's more prominent. I've really gotten more of a racist vibe from big Northern cities. Most of us younger people here have gone to school with people of other races our entire lives, and find it difficult to believe they're inferior simply because of the color of their skin.

And this was because in a good portion of europe jewish people could not own property, but they could have money. So as a matter of necessity people who have to deal with money to survive become good at it. This actually lead to the jews being expelled for "usery" (lending money in order for more money at a later date or with interest)from england.

I cant remember what time frame the jewish were allowed to own property but i think it was in florence (italy) they were allowed to settle in an old warehouse/slaughterhouse/docks district creating the first "ghetto". I would imagine that overtime things such as this (well not the ghetto thing that was just FYI) were blown out of proportion and out comes the stereotypes.

A: They marched in backwards and the Polish thought they were leaving.
Q: Why do Polish police cars have stripes on the side?
A: So the cops can find the handles.

Well, the Navy joke and jokes of that ilk are quite obviously aimed at the fact that Poland got to' up by Germany in WWII. Now, perhaps the "stupid" element comes in from their lack of strategy? Dunno...

That stereotype probably has its origins in WWII or Korea...with all them soldiers messin' around in Tokyo. It is a strange one, though...I've never known white men to be attracted to Asian girls more than any other race.
