still no new videos or the benchmark

I was hoping Valve would release some new stuff via Steam by now... I mean it's September 5th already. I thought we'd atleast have another video by now.

I know Steam has to be taken out of beta and reset first, but I'm dying for something new to play around with or watch.

Hopefully this will happen early next week (the purging of Steams beta userbase and starting over that is), so that we can get some new media already.

something new to play around with huh? try the chrome demo, or the call of duty demo, or the homeworld 2 demo, hell, a girlfriend! those are fun to play around with.

My girls cool (even with my exessive gaming)... but it's hard keepin her happy, working, chillin with my boys, etc and still finding the time to write music and of course game which are my prime hobbies. Time management is a bitch.

She already knows we won't be doing sh*t the weekend of HL2's release tho! I upgraded my rig for these next-gen games 2 months ago, and I'm getting bored wit SOF2 mp @ 300fps.

I might try Call of Duty, but Chrome reminds me of a Halo rip off.

While I appreciate your sarcasm, I'd think getting Steam out of beta would be pretty important to finishing HL2 as it will heavily be dependant on Steam for mp, product sales and subscriptions (as I'm sure you already know *hint - sarcasm*.)

And I doubt they don't have a spare computer with which to compress some video they already have had from E3 into Bink format in between their lengthy compiles.

You anwsered your own question. Getting Steam out of beta is very important, and probably not easy. Releasing new videos is low priority, especialy when it would create a load on the servers that should be used for updating Steam instead. Besides, who cares about videos now, HL2 will be here in a few weeks!! Just play some other game for the time being. Theres plenty of free demos of other games to mess around with. Valve is very busy.

Ain't that the truth, tho the Homeworld 2 demo is pretty decent, and with really nice gfx's

Man i think i'm gonna skip on the MOHAA: BREAKTHROUGH demo, after Call of duty, breakthrough looks like crap.

I tried the freedom fighters demo too, and i was really let down.....game just feels like a kiddie game

Homeworld 2 demo -> pretty much the same as Homeworld 1 and it was kinda dull after an hour or so.

Chrome demo -> Ok for a bit , but got boring fast and the Ai is pretty stupid

Call of Duty demo -> Cool looking game, but pretty much the same as MOHAA in many ways... Ai is pretty stupid also

Must.. have.. Half Life2... need.. Half Life 2... new footage/info would be nice soon because these forums are cluttering up with junky topics.

Yep I told my GF we won't be doing nothing on the weekend of HL2 release. She just looked at me in that girl look like 'you bloody geek'. lol

But seriously how do you reckon I can make her understand i enjoy computer games. She doesn't mind me playing them but you can see it annoys her. Starting to piss me off actually...

My g/f (for near 5 years now) has gotten used to be playing video games - she thinks I'm silly cuz I play them so much, but sometimes we play DM classic or counterstrike one on one against each other which is fun. I always kick her butt so I usually have to let her kill me a few times so she'll keep playing - but she doesn't know I make it easy for her some times. lol She only gets mad when I'm playing a game by myself and ignore her, but if I do that when we're on the phone she'll just ask if I want to let her go to play and she doesn't mind that much. She knows I'm addict, and she's cool about it.

Oh yeah, Steam videos/benchmark. Well, I'm not concerned about new media or info or even a benchmark because I already know I'm buying a new video card. Plus, there's still seems to be a slight possibility of a delay. Lombardi and Coumber(sp?) of Valve have said it was coming on the 30th, but has Gabe confirmed that date too.

In a nutshell, the Steam beta is coming to a close and the next Steam update will include major changes that reflect this. The rest of the movies will be released almost immediately after that final update.

He didn't comment on the benchmark.

here's my guess: when Steam leaves beta, we'll get the next three movies, at the rate of about 1.5 a week. the benchmark will be released at or soon after the gold date, so that you aren't benchmarking your system with an outdated build of Source.

no valve has clearly stated that ALL remaining vids will be available for download tomorrow (as soon as the beta closes)

i correct myself ALMOST after the beta closes, but that does'nt mean a whole week will go by, probably only 1-2 or 3 days, tops.

The next step will be to release the remaining three Half-Life 2 movies, fix the remaining issues with the Riot Shield in Counter-Strike, and any remaining issues with Steam. This will happen almost immediately after the Steam beta ends.
