Lately I've been really getting into this genre even though I don't smoke, so far I've got;

Kyuss - Blues for the Red Sun/Welcome to Sky Valley/...And the Circus Leaves Town
Electric Wizard - Dopethrone/Come My Fanatics.../Let Us Prey
Sleep - Sleep's Holy Mountain
Orange Goblin - Time Travelling Blues/Frequencies From Planet Ten
Black Sabbath - Master of Reality (really it's their only stoner metal album)
High on Fire - Blessed Black Wings
Boris - Pink (more punk really)
Melvins - Bullhead
Down - NOLA/Down II

Are there any more essential stoner albums/bands out there? Please post them.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of weed or whatever, but I can still really kick back to Kyuss and Boris, but then with Boris it's the latest album with sunnO))) Altar that has really peeked my intrested.

Can't really say I know much 'stoner', though, to be honest. Down are great, really good live and It's impressive that at 11am Phil is already drunk/stoned/out of it. I've got a High on Fire album that I brought from London on the recommendation from a freind but I haven't really listened to it. I guess I'm more into doom metal, really. (jesu, sunnO)))), but I'd count the earlier ISIS albums very sludgy/stoner/doom like. Hard to define, I'd say.

Kyuss are legendary, definitely check out their album Wretch, got a real 90s grunge groove feeling to it, not forgetting former guitarist Josh Homme's current band Queens of the stone age; any of their albums are ear pleasing, Songs For The Deaf being one of their most recent and successful releases.

You should also check out:

Alabama Thunderpussy
Bongzilla
Clutch
Fu Manchu
Slo Burn
Screaming Trees
Solace
Ween

****in' A. Listening to Clutch makes you manly and gives you a beard. True story.

But seriously, Blast Tyrant is a great album.

Is Pink by Boris any good, then? I've seen good things about it, so I'm tempted to get it.

So what exactly makes an artist a "stoner band"? I know a couple artists that you'd probably like, but I wouldn't consider them stoner rock.

"Stoner rock and stoner metal are interchangeable terms describing sub-genres of rock and metal music. Stoner rock often fuses slow-to-mid tempo, bassy guitar riffs, psychedelic jams, melodic, often slightly raspy vocals and stripped down 'raw' production."

Also, TheAntipop: If your into Doom metal you have to check out Dopethrone by Electric Wizard, that thing is the essence of doom metal. Boris' Pink isn't too bad, it has a raw punk sound to it.

Thanks for the recommendations Pulse. Ween is great.

Mudhoney - get their Superfuzz Bigmuff album at least. A great song from them is "Sweet Young Thing Ain't Sweet No More" if you wanna test them out first.

Sweet Water - quite unknown band from Seattle. Check out one of their songs here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=8WZetq7gdOs.

Stoners can muster the ability to play instruments?

Wow.

Stoner rock/metal is fun.

I say check out Acrimony. They released a record called Tumuli Shoomaroom. It's incredible.

I will, if I can find it. Thanks.

Two more purchases today: Karma to Burn's Self-titled and Orange Goblin's The Big Black. Both great albums.

Forgot to add this, link to Solace's myspace here (has full songs)
